Tourney this weekend

Featured Replies

first of all I am not sure if this is in the right section, but I am going to be fishing my first tourney this weekend for my school's fishing team.  The tournament is at claytor lake.

What I want to ask is about what to throw.  The weather leading up to the tournament will be in the low 70s in the day and the mid 40s at night.

What do you guys think the water temp will be this weekend on the lake?

What things would be good to throw in a lake like this at this time of the year?

with temps like that i say they are gonna be either up on the beds or really close to being there.. toss a jig or crank around .. possibly a senko.. just stay versatile... look on main lake points and also secondary points in coves.. you should be able to pick up something.. let the fish tell you what to do from there

Check water temperature. How close to 65*?

Look for beds.

Some beds will be in 8 to 12 feet so you will not see them.

You will have to find where they are: rocks, stumps, brush, deep water waiting to move up; shallow water on their beds.

You will probably catch a number of dinks that are moving around.

May be windy on Saturday as the front moves through the area so check www.weatherunderground.com for weather report and wind speed.

If windy, consider going with spinning gear to avoid baitcaster backlashes.

Shaky Heads and Texas plastics for beds and along shore or where you think there may be a bed.

Crankbaits, like #5 Shad Raps to try to locate them.

Could be a tough day with the front moving through.

Good luck and let us know how you do.  :)
