Lake Frederic in Front Royal Va

Anyone here ever fished Lake Frederic?

I want to go there but it is a non gas engine lake and while I was looking through some of the photo's of some of the fish people have caught there I noticed that some had gas engines... although in the up position.

What is the rule can you put in with a gas and just use the trolling motor?

I have fished it - the last time (last year) it was restricted to electric only. I grew up near there and my cousin actually owned the lake in the 70s and early 80s before transferring to the state (which expanded it and did the dam). I hooked a monster one night when some buddies and I camped out there. Black jitterbug. Never got it to the canoe... Thirty years later and I'm still lamenting that lost fish!

Anyway, I've found it pretty tough these days as it's fairly small and gets quite a bit of pressure. There are some lunkers in there though (based on the photos). I have caught a few around the dam and one day in May (two years ago maybe) my high school buddy and I went (he was with me that fateful night when the monster got away) and hit them hard for about 2 hours on a green poppin' bug (fly rod). Probably the only bait they haven't seen a million times! Last time I was out that way, they were tearing up the adjacent property for a housing development. Used to be a real pretty area.

Thank's tboydva,

I will take the jon boat and head over there then.

Nitro, Yes I have put in there a number of times last year with my gas engine propped out of the water and run on Trolling Motor Only. Most of the lakes in the area allow this. I haven't fished it this year yet but everytime out there last year it was hard to fish for us. Nice lake though. 8-)

Yeh, you can go there with your gas motor. Just keep it up. Went there last month, it's beautiful and very pressured. Plan on only getting a few bites. Good luck

Sterling Va. and a cowboy's Fan WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?

I have an Aunt who enjoy's the occational boat ride but it's hard for her to walk much less get in the boat and she enjoy's seeing the lake and want's me to take her there on the boat.

It's much easier to help her onto the bass boat rather than the jon boat.

Is there a web site that will tell me what I need to know for sure or a phone # I can call?

Thank's Shimmy!

What Shimmy said. I fish there fairly often. If you take your bass boat just keep the motor up. No prob. There is a tackle shop there also called the minnow bucket. You can call them as well. Good luck. Last time out had a good early am bite, a mid morning lull, then caught a solid 4# off of a point around noon.
