what baits/presentations and time of day has been best for everyone? the fish seemed to turn off a few days before that storm. im guessing with all that rain we got , the o2 levels are down and the fish are deep? i do fish from shore so im kind of limited on how deep i can fish. i usually go out early afternoon and its already stupid hot.

Went out this morning, about 7:30 to noon.  Wanted to get out earlier before the bite shut down.  Didn't get a lot of fish, but I did get very good size.  I probably had about a 18-20 pound limit.  One of those was a six and change.

Drop shot caught the best fish, most of them came on a 12" worm worked up one side of an offshore hump, then back down the other.  Water goes 30 foot to about six foot.  It's a big pile of rocks and dirt that the dredges must have left behind.  Caught absolutely nothing flipping in the pads/grass, and nothing on topwaters.  I probably missed the topwater bite though because I got out late.  Saw lots of fish feeding on the surface, couldn't get one of them to hit a lure to save my life.

i agree , the DS used to be a 'go-to' for me , but the lakes i fish now have steep drop offs that eat that rig. i cant tell you how much tackle ive lost to getting snagged on rocks. other than that , 4" and 5" trick sticks always produced for me , just not lately.

as far as i know the only thing in my lakes that are 6+lbs are the carp and rocks  ;D. ill make the effort to get out earlier when i can to see if that will help. thanks.

After 10 am flipping mats has been the ticket for me the last two months.

Hey Sqhertz. The fish have definetely gone deep for the summer. I have not been having much luck on topwater the last few weeks at all, and find myself fishing deeper earlier. Large T-rigged worms have been a great bait for me lately, as well as the jig n' craw. Slow n' deep is how she likes it during the summer. One thing I don't buy into is the bite "turning off" at anytime during the day. If the O2 levels are down, you should expect the fish near some sort of vegetation, my first pick would be thick lillies, no matter how shallow they are. My second pick would be deep grass. Lol. It's been a while since I've caught anything 6+. The last time I did, I tossed my camera in the lake trying to take a picture.  I went out and got a waterproof point and shoot after that.  One of these days I really need to rig up some way to take pics while I'm on my Jon. I may take a spare 11" pedestal I've got here and see if I can stick a tripod on it somehow.

It's been by far my best presentation this year on the deep retention pits up here in my area. I'm using a small Bass Magic Shaky Tail soft plastic. It mimics a small minnow perfectly. My father picked them up when he was with me at BPS one day and I just said I'm buying those. Match the hatch and all.

You had it right. One today was probably just over six. Never pulled anything out of that lake that large before. It's been a while since the last time I caught one that large.  Nice to know that there are some larger fish in there. It's the only lake in the area that doesn't have any Peacocks in it. It has a very healthy Largemouth population in it. Lots of forage for them to eat also. I wouldn't be surprised if theres larger fish in there.

Went out this evening after work with my 9 year old daughter, and ran the banks of west Davie for about 20 minutes before dark. She was throwing a senko type bait, I was throwing a big worm swimming it across the surface through the pads and caught a 2 pounder on my fifth cast.

You would think she would have caught the fish on the smaller bait but the little guy just crushed the big worm.

I know this does not answer the question but there is not really a solid answer to it. You just have to keep the line wet and see what happens  8-)

been using old faithful...Texas rigged, either purple / motor oil / or chartreuse with glitter worm. Got out Saturday before 7:30, fishing the bank at a local golf course. Caught a total of "12" with "3" in the 5 - 6 lb range, nothing was below 2 lbs. Not sure what the last one weighed seeing how she had one hanging out her stomach!
