I live in Midlothian and am wondering if there are good spots out in Powhatan (besides the Powhatan Lakes/Ponds).I would appreciate any info. Thanks

A lot of really nice private lakes and ponds but not sure of too much public waters besides the ones you mentioned

Lake Shawnee is where I go. Its not exactly "public" but it has places at each of the 3 lakes to put in a jon boat. I fish it because my grandparents live on it.

i got a pass to lake shawnee thats where state record pickerel was caught! My friend lives on the lake and we fish it alot and have produce few 5lbs+ bass. You also got James River "Maiden landing" & "watkins landing"... Bear Creek lake like in cumberland just outside of powhatan, and you also got Amelia lake not far from ptown. Other then that most of the other lakes/ponds are private. Powhatan lakes are starting to heat up also...

Which one of the 3 lakes at lake shawnee do you fish? the 1st one, middle, or third???

How is the bank fishing for Lake Shawnee? My friend's uncle was the one who caught that pickerel a while back.

Bank fishing produces for me there, so i know it would for an experienced fisher.

Since I keep hearing Powhatan Lakes is picking up, is it good for bank fishing?

yes powhatan lakes are producing but nothing really over 3.5lbs but still fun. Its loaded with crappie and pike too! Top lakes you can walk on the dam or fish off the dock. Bottom lake you can also drive to the very back and fish off dam or dock. Dont be afraid to toss a jig into some of the spill ways i have caught several bass & crappie this way! My brother was looking for a place to bring his 9yr old to catch fish i told him to go there and there hooked!! His son caught a 3.5lbs bass right off the dock with minnow and lots of crappie! You wont catch many big ones but will catch numbers.

We hit both 1st & 2nd lake...normally if we take boat out we will go to the 1st lake...if we bank fish we do it at 2nd lake off dam. Lake shawnee has some NICE bass just takes lil time to locate them! My friend that lives on the lake has caught several 5lbs+ bass off the dam on 2nd lake.

Fished the upper Powhatan Lake today off the pier. One small crappie hit a spinner bait and one bass on a white senko. The bass was on the light side of a pound. Something was spooking the bait fish, not sure if they were jumping in the choppy water from all the wind, but I do know a couple of times there was a sizable splash. Couldn't get anything to hit on topwater.

Some guys came up to me and were talking about how awesome the lakes used to be. They mentioned muskrats were boring holes in the dams and thats was caused the failure. Its a shame they were allowed to fall apart.

Hopefully these two lakes continue to grow and everyone continues to follow the catch and release signs posted.
