Has anyone had any luck with stiped bass? Where do you fish and what kind of baits? I have only been there 2 times and have not had much luck.

I don't fish there much.  I think the stripers caught there are more incidental to other types of fishing.  I know crappie and bass fishermen pick them up more frequently when the water is cold. 

If you want stripers in that area, may I suggest Little Creek Reservoir?  This is a deep, clear man-made reservoir in James City County up around Toano.   That lake is well renowned for producing lots of big stripers.

There, the technique is to cruise around looking for balls of baitfish.  You can cast shiny lipless or moderate/deep divers on the edges of the balls.  Or, you can cast net the baitfish - usually blueback herring, and use those.  The striper action can be fast and furious when you find these bait clusters. 

Thanks Micro, I live in James City County between the 2 reservoirs. I have only been to Little Creek once. I typically go to Diascound (it's free).do you go to Little Creek often for striper fishing? If so, maybe on day this fall we can catch up and try to catch some.

I rarely ever fish there for stripers.  Occassionally, I will get one on a crank or lipless.  But I go there for bass.

Fishing at Little Creek is free if you shore fish, and there is a small fee to use the ramp. 

@Micro: How is the bass fishing in little creek reservoir, how would you rate it overall? I've been thinking of trying some bass fishing there this weekend, and more then likely that's where I'm going this Saturday. Do they still rent additional batteries?

I know they rent motors and batteries, but I don't know if they rent extra batteries.  An extra battery would be helpful.  Area wise, Little Creek isn't huge.  But it has a helluva lot of shoreline.  I've eaten up my batteries on Little Creek.

As far as bass fishing, its as good as any lake in the area.  It's sort of unique in being a very deep (for tidewater), clear lake.  In summer time, the water gets crystal clear.  It's made for fishing crank baits.  The lake has very little bottom structure.  Just grass.

you may do well to get an extra motor too... i got about 700 yards away from the dock and the d**n switch on the tiller conked out.  that was a long row back into the wind.

Thanks, I have a jon boat, battery and trolling motor. I've heard that they rent batteries there, I was unsure if it was any truth to that. Little Creek sounds like where I'll be heading to this weekend. I need a change up from the James.

Hey guys, I'm new to Waller Mill Reservoir. I've been there once and my day was cut a little short thanks to Thunderstorms. Does anyone have any tips for catching some nice bass here. My focus is largemouths but I wouldn't mind a striped bass if I snagged one. Also, any idea how deep it is on average?
