I hear the water is low 50's but the upper end is muddy with lots of floating debris, including whole trees.  :o  I went across Occoneechee on my way to Gaston last weekend and it was orange as far as you could see in both directions. There is water in the bushes though  ;)

Call for up to date lake levels: 434.738.6371 ext. 275

Water level 304 and above means the water is in the bushes and the fishing is great.

Have fun.  :D

Oops! Forgot to answer your query.

If water in bushes try a green pumpkin baby brush hog.

Otherwise, moving baits like crankbaits, lipless crankbaits, Shad Raps, Chatterbaits and spinnerbaits.

Try the backs of creeks.

Be sure to have a GPS to find your way back to your landing. Not kidding. Buggs is enormous.

Have your fishing license for the conservation officers and your Safe Boating card if you are required to have passed the safe boating course.

Have everything you need to have on your boat in case you are inspected.

Watch the weather as the wind can make Buggs like the Atlantic ocean in a storm.

Check out Bobcat's Tackle store outside of Clarksville. Kool place.

Go get 'em!  :)

I like to lanuch out of Rudds Creek enough fishing right there you'll never have to leave 8-)

Good luck, let us know how you did. I imagine it will be more crowded than usual. I heard yesterday that the new VA state record blue cat was caught at Kerr ( as we North Carolinians call it) at 106 pounds. I will try to find a link for it.

It was actually 109 pounds.

It was a tough day on Buggs, but anyday on the water is a good one. Caught a few, total was about 5lbs. Biggest one was caught on a spinner, the rest on worms. Thanks everyone for their tips and advice!!

Hello everyone,

I am going to Kerr/ Buggs Island this weekend and I am staying all the way up-lake past Ochaneechee. I have been to the lake a few times but I always stayed at North Bend by the dam. Does anyone have any pointers or advice? I always have trouble finding good information about this lake for some reason. Anything and everything you have to offer from water temp and lake level, to baits and techniques greatly appreciated. I have had trouble in the past establishing a pattern here because it seems like no two trips are the same due to the constant fluctuation of water level. Thanks for your help.
