Pacifc NW: When to start fishing?

Featured Replies

Hi! I got hooked on bass fishing at the end of last summer and I am very anxious to get out there again. I live in pacific northwest near Seattle and I found this site and love all the info!

I was just wondering, when can I start fishing? How early do the bass start spawning? Also, I fished senkos mostly last summer, is this a good bait for the early spring?

Give it another 2-3 weeks. wait till the water temps get to around 40-45 degrees F. This is when the bass go into pre-spawn mode!  ;D ;D

Great, thanks for the tip. I will hit it in two more weeks.

For pre-spawning bass in the PNW, will senkos do the trick?

Senkos can be used at almost any time of the year. Drop shot presentations, and jerkbaits are good pre-spawn baits as fish are transitioning from deep to shallower water.

I would start by hitting points and creeks. Spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, spooks, buzzbaits, sticks, lizards and jigs are my spring arsenal. Once the water warms into the mid 50's I would be fishing shallow big baits. Spring fish can't resist a 11" worm. If your talking about a big greenback :)

anybody know the water temp. nowadays in western washington lakes?  I'm gonna be hitting the water for the first time this year next week either in Lake Stevens or Lake Washington, but i'm afraid it is way too d**n cold for me to catch anything besides trout.....

i want my dose of bronze!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

can you tell this cold weather has driven me completely insane?  If this continues, the bass are gonna spawn real late this year in western WA.........  gonna have to store my carolina rig lizard until May...........

Good grief! More snow today....

How will this extended winter impact the fish? Will we have an extended season or a small window to land them?

:-? I am so ready to fish...
