Lake Powell Az. Fishing

Featured Replies

Just looking for any tips or information on this area and the fishery.  We will not be going there for another year, but I want to be as prepared as I can when we do arrive.  We will be renting a houseboat for 1 week and we will have another fishing boat along as well.  One of my questions for now is about line, we fish in South Dakota and Minnesota most of the time so 10 pund test mono has always been fine, do I need to upscale that for fishing there?  Iam sure that I will have more questions along the way.

Thanks-

Arlo

you should  go with 10lb. fluorocarbon.it's a super clear, deep body of water with lots of smallmouth bass.

As Casca said, the water is super clear, 40 to 60 feet visibility is common.

I would go with 6 - 10 pound fluoro. You don't need baitcast gear unless throwing deep cranks or bigger topwaters. Tons of smallies but most are under 3 pounds. The largemouth bass are a little bigger though, lots up to 5 - 7 pounds. You can catch both in the same areas but brushier areas and adjacent water tend to be better for bucketmouths. Shad or crayfish colored grubs, tubes, and senkos are dynamite for this lake.
