Extreme Makeover...Home Edition

Featured Replies

Well guys, now that i have the all clear, i can tell you....

The company i am employed at, Hartland Homes, here in Lincoln Nebraska, has been chosen by ABC's Extreme Makeover...Home Edition to build a house for a great family.

We have been in meetings for the last month with all of the production crew people, project managers, sub contractors, designers, etc., trying to get this all set up.

We start Demo tomorrow (sunday) the 29th at Noon.  I have to tell you guys, this is going to be the CRAZIEST week ever in my life.

I will try to jump on here and update you guys as to what's going on as much as possible.  I'll be pulling night shifts a couple times as I am the team leader for all the flooring going into the house.  I don't know if i'll be able to put any pics up, as we are not allowed camera's in the house.

If you wish, you can go to our website, www.hartlandhomes.com , click on the Extreme Makeover banner.  There you will be able to read about the family, see some pictures and a blog of what went on each day, and just check it all out.

THIS IS GOING TO BE AMAZING!!!!!!

We have 106 hours to complete a 4000 sq. ft. house!!!!!!!!!!!

Jason

Being a part of something like that should make you so proud.

That is really cool!  My wife and I watch that show every sunday.  We both think that it is great they are helping so many people and doing it with great style and compassion.  You and your company should be very proud that you have been chosen for this.  You will have to tell us what the designers are really like and do they really do the house in just 7 days?  That seems to be the buring question, every one that I talk to says there is no way they can build those houses in just 7 days.  Congrats, and have a good time doing it.

Matt

I commend you and the company you work for, for being involved with this project....

That is very cool.

WOW!That's awsome. My wife watches that show. She cries everytime.Keep us posted I would like to see the house ya'll build.

That is some very personally rewarding stuff.  Nothing better for the soul than helping people that truly deserve and appreciate acts like these.

This show is the epitomy of "random acts of kindness"

My favorite show ever made.  THAT'S what TV's should be used for. ;)

Have fun and be safe on the site.  Kudos to all involved.

When you talk about doing the right thing, that show deffinately is deffinately the front runner.  They did a house up near me a year ago and some of the guys who worked on the house come into the bar I work at every now and again.  They say it was the most rewarding job they've ever worked on and they still hear from the family now and again just to say thanks.

Good luck to you and all involved, and be sure to let us know when the show airs, especially if you get a cameo!

Hey guys,  i'm home to sleep so i can go back for a night shift.  Started Demo today at about 11:00am.  Digging new basement and footings right now as i type this.  Then they pour the new basement walls.  Framing is scheduled to start at about 3:00am.  It will take approx. 10 hours to frame the house.

Yes, i got to meet Ty.  And guess what, he really is that crazy!  Screaming all the time, super super excited kinda guy.  By the way...he's not as tall as he looks on TV ;D

Anyways, i'm off to bed, got to be back to the job site at 10pm.  Check in with you guys tomorrow.

Well, the night shift went pretty good.  Had problems with the special concrete not setting up near as fast as we were told it would.  I left the site at 5:45am this morning to come home to sleep.  They were pulling the pans off of the new foundation when i left.  Framers started about 3 hours behind schedule, but should be able to make up the difference so we can get back on track.  They should still be framing right now.  I'm getting ready to head out for another night shift.

More reports tomorrow!

Also, you can go to www.hartlandhomes.com/extreme/ and click on "Photos and Timeline" to see some pictures of the site.

What town in Nebraska is the home located, or are you at liberty to say?

Yes, Lincoln.

If you click the hartland homes link above, it gives EVERYTHING you could want to know about the projest.

Very cool to have an insider there.  As I said before, If I could CHOOSE my calling, I would have Ty's job.  Or ANY job associated with this program for that matter.  I signed up to help when they hit RI.  Anyone else?

Let's take the fine example NEbassman has set and get involved!!

That is so cool what they are doing.  Lincoln is just a 30 min drive from my house.

Had the night shift again last night (monday night through 5 am tuesday morning)...the entire house is framed, rough in of electrical, plumbing, heating and a/c are done, it is insulated and drywall has been hung.  They are almost done with mudding and taping the drywall, then comes paint.  I have to head back soon, because i'm in charge of all the tile that goes into the house, and that happens right after paint.  Gonna be another long night.

Very cool man I saw something on it on the news a couple nights ago.  I used to be an electrician in Lincoln, I was wondering who are Subs for the the other trades.  Shot me a PM if you don't mind and get a few minutes between shifts.

i used to watch this show every sunday but i have stuff to do sunday nights now and i cant watch it im missing so much now :(

Well, the paint is done, all tile in the bathrooms is done.  Stone in various parts of the house is being finished up.  All trim and doors are just about done.  I'm heading back here in a bit because i'm the team leader for the wood flooring that is going in tonight.  Check with you guys tomorrow.

I'm a cynical guy and I was looking for some kind of gimmick or catch to that show (seemed like one of those "too good to be true" things) but it has become apparent that they really are just filming a kind act and people are in fact watching it. Good job to all those involved in the show and to NEbassman especially.
