Fantastic Summer Job

So this week I started my first retail job at Dick's Sporting Goods to earn some money for the next school year. I am working in the Lodge department which is basically hunting, fishing, and camping stuff. I get to wear jeans and a fishing shirt to work everyday and I just spent today sorting all sorts of incoming fishing gear. I have to say that being able to work with fishing stuff is pretty awesome, I'm getting paid to do stuff that I like and it's great. I even have received some tips on some local fishing spots from customers. The only thing I'm a little worried about is the selling guns part. There is a lot of regulations that require strict adherence to procedures so I'm a little worried about making sure I get everything right.

Anyone of you other young guys have a good summer job?

Congrats on the great new job! Now the hard part, not spending all your paycheck on "treasure". Enjoy!

This summer I'm working for my dad's co. (Child Evangelism Fellowship) and I basicly go around teaching  bible clubs (called 5-day clubs) to children all summer. Its pretty fun and it pays good. (Here on earth and up yonder too ;))

Congrats on the new job!!! It makes it better when you work with something you like, makes going to work alot easier :)

yea this summer i work in one of the many beach towns at a freanch fry place, basically free food and right on the beach ( good view of the girls going to the board walk ;) ) gets really buy in the middle of the summer with all the tourists but tips are pretty good

P.S. my first 2 pay checks are going into an abu garcia cardinal and a st croix :)

My friend and I were gonna get jobs at Dick's but he bailed. I still may do it, sounds awesome!

Speaking of St Croix, I found out the other day that Dick's employees get up to a 50% discount on St Croix rods. We can order them through our manager and they come personalized with our names on them and with the 50% discount. Needless to say, I was very happy to hear that news.

As for spending my money on fishing stuff, I already used my discount to get some X-Raps for like $4 and a variety of other stuff. I'm getting to a point where I am pretty satisfied with my gear though so hopefully I won't be buying any new gear unless it is a new item or a replacement for something I've lost.

Now, how old is you?  I have not yet found anyone to even want their grass cut.  Or spread mulch or nothing.  I would LOVE to get a job playing with fishing stuff.

Course, my scouting schedule is kinda rough for a standard hours job, but I could most definitely work something out.

I'm 20. Almost all of my time is free in the summer so I'm working at least 32 hours per week.

Congrats on the new job.  It is a whole lot easier going to work when you like the work.  Have fun this summer and jsut watch out for the bait monkey he likes to lurk around places like that. ;)

My summer job is going to be mowing and scorekeeping baseball games...not bad and actually kind of fun

( good view of the girls going to the board walk ;) )

I think I should come give you a hand with some of that "work."  ;D

I'll be doing some mowing this summer, as well as performing with my bluegrass group to make some extra spending money.

Cool job DD, I worked in the lodge at Dicks Sporting Goods last fall, and yes the pro deal for the St. Criox rods is awesome. Avids for $80 ain't bad ;). With the gun sales, don't sweat it. You will get the hang of it. It just takes practice, and remember to not rush through 'em (that when I screwed up on 'em). In a couple of weeks you will have the FFL# memorized. (I still do and I haven't worked there for over 6 months). When I was working there I even got to meet Ed Stack (CEO of Dick's, aka "Dick's" brother) which was really cool. Really nice guy and easy to talk to.

Also don't forget to keep an eye out for clearance items. They run half off clearance fishing items once in a while and since your working there you get "first dibs" on it. One time I scored two really nice leathermans for $3 each. Congrats on the new job and good luck with it.
