Re: question about the site

Clear your cache, close your browser and then reopen it.  See if that fixes it.

Also, are you using a firewall or proxy server?  If so, turn them off and see what happens.  What is your host provider?

did all that Glenn... I don't have a firewall... no proxy server either... *shrug*

I am usually kinda computer savy but this one has me stumped

What browser are you using?  I noticed Kendammit is using Avant, which this site doesn't support.

microsoft internet explorer... 6.0

windows XP

Glenn, I have also used regular internet explorer and mozilla, but those also have the same problems.  With Mozilla, text will show up i.e. new posts will have "new" written beside them but it will not be a button, just the word, which is clickable.  I will clear the cache and then close and reopen and see if that helps.

turned the firewall off(Norton Internet Security) and everything shows up at normal on both Avant and IE.  Wondering how I could possibly fix the firewall issue since there is no way I can surf with it disabled(cable internet).  Anyway, my host provider is Adelphia.

with a little bit more playing, it has to do with the privacy control option of my firewall.  Seems a rather odd thing to be effecting images.

Do u have a router for ur Internet?

If yes ,there is no need for the Norton Internet Security as router works as firewall 2.

Generally I dont like Norton Internet Security .The normal settings block a lot of stuff.

nah, no need for a router as I'm not on a network.  A lot of people say that Norton is not that good, but I've had it for about two years and have had very minimal problems.  Doesn't make much sense though that privacy control is the reason the images won't load on this site.  Still can't figure that one out.

In your privacy settings, check to be sure "block referrer URL" (or something like that) is turned OFF. I'd hedge my bets it's turned on.

I could write a book on this. There's a very slight risk that images can run hidden embedded code scripts via destructiveX...so some firewall manufacturers took the easy way out by blocking referring URLs in an attempt to block the scripts. Frequently if ref is blocked by the firewall, perfectly acceptable images won't be served, so it is an extremely inelegant way used by some fire walls to intercept what " might be" dodgy images...dumb response to the problem IMO

But the short story is blocking your referring URL also blocks images on our site. There is a very, very slight risk by disabling this "feature" while surfing the Web, but if you have the latest Windows security patches, there's no risk at all.  All of our images are safe.

Blocking the referrer in a browser/firewall/proxy/cache is sort of a misconfiguration that should be done only after careful consideration and when deemed necessary.

I would agree that someone could conceivably come up with a reason why it would be a good idea to have all referrers blocked all the time (though I can't think of any at the moment), but those aren't usually the users that actually have referrers blocked. Most of them have it blocked because they've installed software that does this and they are not aware, or because they believe it provides them some level of security or privacy (which really isn't the case).

thanks Glenn... I did some more brainstorming last night... I am running a wireless router and have my desktop hard wired and my laptop is wireless... so I am thinking it may have something to do with that.. I need to do more troubleshooting when I get the chance...

thanks for all the input

I dont think it has 2 do anything that the one is wireless and the other connected with ethernet card. The settings of the router are the same for both cases. Check ur settings of ur router .Enable DMZ and check the MTU.Sometimes if the MTU value is not correct some pages are not loaded correctly.

Also switch 2 Firefox.I personally hate bill gate products and their vulnerabilities.

I don't have a firewall

OH NO I DON'T have A firewall... hahaha turns out I had TWO FIREWALLS... one in the software for my wireless router and one in the form of Symantic Client Firewall hahahahaha.. so if you turn off ONE of the firewalls this site works just fine!!!!!!

just figured I better follow up and expose my findings (stupidity) so that if others have this issue they can work thru it MUCH quicker than I did

So I was correct :)

I ll suggest to disable the symantec firewall and dont touch ur router firewall (more dedicated)
