Iam studying auto body repair this year in school. Iam sure this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. I just really hate fixing plastic bumpers. But I have a few questions. How do it prevent rust from forming on my very costly hammers and dollys? How to I fix the rust and pitting on the dollys? I could really use your helps thanks Erik.

Why don't you ask the teacher?

I am not an auto body tech, but our tools stay inside.  That is the first step.  Also, the more use they get the better.  The grease from whatever you are working on works wonders.  Also, a coat of WD-40 every now and then will keep rust at bay.

If it is already rusted and pitted, you are SOL.  You could grind, and paint as much as possible but once rust starts, it is a never ending process.  If you grind all the way past ALL the pitting, it might work, but that is gonna weaken your dollies to the point of being unused.  

Well I asked the shop teacher and he said theres some speical oil used on dollys. He just never have heard of a way to prevent rust from hapning.  But I have all the surface rust off the hammers. I was told to use a scotch brite pad and some solvent. So tomorrow Iam going to clean the dollys and see how bad they are. I got some of it cleaned off they don't seem as bad as I thought. I think Iam going to take some fine sand paper to them after iam done. Then I will take a wire brush to them to make them look good agian. I also have never kept my tools outside. Its just that they were in a tool book in the garage over four years. So now iam thinking about getting some of them anti moister packets for the drawers.
