JIMI HENDRIX-gone 37 years now

Featured Replies

Hey Fellas I was so busy with school, that when I checked my calanader I realized this just passed. I was 16 when i lied ( imagine that a teenager lying ::)) and told my folks i was going to play at a high school dance and snuck to the Cafe Wha in the Village and I caught Jimi for the first time since he was out of the Isley Brothers band. That's right he played  in the Isley's,Little Richards Band and Ike and Tina Turners band , before he went into the Army, how's that for going to school!!!!!

Anyway I never listend or played the same after, caught him a few times before he passed.

YOU ARE MISSED JIMI

the video for muddy's song

rest in peace Jimi

Yes, he revolutionized the guitar and rock and roll. His influence is still felt in music today. It is sad how his life ended. It should have set an example for so many others with celebrity status, but unfortunately it hasn't (i.e. Elvis, John Belushi, Kurt Cobain, etc.).

Thanks for sharing that with us Muddy. I'm sure that was an awesome feeling to sit just feet away from the guitar-great himself.

Yea thats right Hookem RIP/SRV also.

And 17 since Stevie.....

:'(

As good as Jimi was, SRV was the guitarist whose licks I would love to have imitated.

ou should read up on the progression of that style. Jimmi got his rythymic sense from Ike Turner and Little Richard, his style of layering Guitars from the Isleys. He loved a lot of the really great jazz and blues players who came before him> Stevie got  a lot of huis stylings from Jimi. PBS shows a really great collection of Stevies Austin City Limits strung together periodically. In response to a question and a comment about how Stevie played Jimi so well, Stevie very humbley answered" Yea I play him, but he wrote it" Beyond his humility , had Steve lived longer there is no doubt he would have really taken the guitar a lot furthur and would have written some suff!!!!!!!!!!

Muddy, didn't know you were a drummer. You're still playing, I hope. I was hesitant about mentioning this, but I spent 6 weeks in rehab 21 years ago in Atlanta. On the second day I was there, SRV was admitted, after falling off the stage at a show in England. For the first week, he was still pretty cocky, but after that, he was one of the most humble guys I hung around with in the center. He even let me hold & play '#1', and yep, he slept with her too!

I was at lunch from work the day his death was announced.  Went home & listened to every SRV tape I had. He was really a nice guy, cleaned up and continued his great music right up to the end. Still miss him.

Wow, EACH MAN"S ANONYMITY SHOULD BE CHERISHED AND PROTECTED BY ALL!! It's my business if I want to ID myself as being in recovery it is never my business to identify anyone else who is, thats one of the things that promote a safe and secure place for us all to get better!

Muddy, completely agree. SRV's rehab was well publicized, fans all over knew where he was at, at the time. But, I agree with your statement. Celebrities generally have a hard time of that.

Ok, back to Jimi H.

He was a visionary guitar player, with the most creative licks since............................. .

but most people don't realize what a great songwriter he was.

Hey Joe, Wind cries Mary, Little wing,  the list goes on and on.

And then my favorite.

"I used to live in a roomful of mirrors.

All I could see was me.

I take my spirit and I crash my mirrors.

Now the whole world is there for me to see."

His death is mourned, but I ask myself,

"could his life have ended any other way?"

I don't think so.
