Boston College and Virginia Tech Tonite!!!!

So, who has who to night?    #2 Boston College is travelling to #8 Virginia Tech tonight on ESPN @ 1830 hrs, thats 6:30pm for the civilians.

Has VT's early season ranking and their barely hanging on this season been to generous?    Will the powers above allow BC to play for a National title if they hang on.     BC has fair late schedule, FSU, Maryland, Clemson and Miami, and I don't know how those games will help them in the BCS computers.

Will it be enough if they go undefeated?

I'll take BC on the road.   I didn't think after watching them play 2 early games, ECU and LSU, that they deserved the early ranking.

Matt

BC takes it 31-21. Should be a great matchup though. V-Tech doesn't look like they have the same drive as the last few seasons pulling off some squeaker wins (EC and NC) that barely helped them earn the spot they have now. Be interesting if they lose this one to see how far down they drop in the poll.

Although I do have to give them credit on the win against Clemson.  But then you look back at that LSU game and whew was that u-g-l-y.  Can Tech win against top competitors in the bcs?  I think this week is a chance for them to rebound and show they can, if they can pull off the win.

I'll be the one to predict the upset.  Virginia Tech takes the upset, 27-24.

Virginia Tech. Its just been that kind of season. ;)

Hmmmm,

This is a tough one, on second thought no its not.      BC.    If I am wrong I will take my crow medium rare ;D

Although I missed the game, I understand that BC made a fanatastic comback to win 14-10 in the rain at Lane Stadium.

Sorry to see BC win as I am a Hokie fan second to being an LSU fan and if the Hokies had won LSU would have jumped to second.

Now LSU and BC control their destiny.

Ohio State may not make it undefeated; LSU has to play Satan next weekend and close out with Arkansas and probably Florida in the SEC Championship game.

Should be a fun end to a wild season.

Thursday nights are quickly becoming my favorite football night.     There has been some very good, exciting, meaningful games being played on Thursdays.

I'm not sure the BC QB is the Heisman just yet.     Plenty of football to determine that one still.     He's not off the list, thats for sure.

I would also like to say, this is not the same VT that I saw play ECU and LSU.

What was different about them?  Still good D and special teams, bad O.

Hey Chris,

The Hokies are better because they are no longer walking on the field and wondering why they are there, like in their first two games.

The UVA fans are going crazy and doing the math to see if the Cavs can make it to the ACC Championship game.

They figure they can lose one of the remaining ACC games and then defeat Tech to make it.

I guess you can get carried away with big one, two and three point wins over sub-par talent.

Hokie loss has me bummed out.  Only things that will make me happy is for Ohio State to lose in Happy Valley; Florida lose; and Tulane lose.

Is it snowing in Blacksburg yet?

Tech gave it up. They played great (check that: the defense played great) for 58 minutes.....its a crying shame that there's 60 minutes in a game. The offense is terrible. Brandon Ore is not the same RB he was last year, he can barely break a tackle anymore and runs out of bounds alot now when last year he'd lower his shoulder and punish those little cornerbacks.

The VT offensive coordinator (Stinespring) needs to freshen up the play book and start calling better plays. He has a habit of running lots of plays that start going east and west....which seem to always get stuffed for a loss or a very minimal gain. Plus when they get a lead, he backs off and plays conservative instead of just going for the throat and closing the door on the opponent.

Being just 40 minutes from Blacksburg and a long time Tech fan, this loss is hard to swallow.

Fivebasslimit,

I know how you feel, especially with the passing game going east and west in lieu of north and south by many teams who use this type of play.

I did some research on the throwing of the ball to the running backs parallel to the line of scrimmage and it seems to have come from out west.

The goal is to get the ball to the running back very fast and let him run with the ball.

It is supposed to be executed faster than a sweep and is designed to eliminate the linemen from the play, leaving only the linebackers, safety and corner available to stop the runner.

Frankly, I hate it, but it is going to be one of the major plays in all football playbooks, both high school, college and the NFL.

If you have a fast running back it is supposed to be an excellent play.

It helps the slow running backs, too, as when they catch the ball they are right at the line of scrimmage and should pick up at leat 4 or 5 yards a play.

Now for the Hokies to run the table and beat BC in the Championship Game down in Florida.

I understand the concept of those plays but when you have a terrible O-Line and a mediocre RB like Tech does, running a play east/west play like that is the equivalent to shooting yourself in the foot. Those plays DO work if you have the proper personnel to execute.....which at this point in time, Tech does not. And on top of that, they dont seem smart enough to realize it or they are too hard-headed to change.....I hope they figure something out soon because the defense and special teams have been carrying the offense all year.

Best last 5 minutes of a game I'd seen in a long time... ;D
