awesome encounter.

Featured Replies

I just went out to take the trash to the road. As I step out I hear a rustle. Oh two doe's in my neighbors yard. I think nothing of it and take the trash to the road. As I am coming back down the driveway I hear them coming back out of the woods.

So I stand by my truck and they walk back out. I am standing about 30-40ft away from them and we just seem to stare at each other for about 5 min. Well I have had enough of standing still so I move around to try and spook them off. Funny thing is they start to come closer. The one doe comes about 10ft away from me so I blow and stomp to get her to move back and she ***** her head to the side and looks at me like I am crazy. I bet I just spent 30 min outside with these two deer.

I haven't hunted my back yard in 2 years and there are a lot of deer. I think I am going to put out a corn pile and a trail camera and try and post some pics of them. I don't think I can shoot the deer in my yard anymore after this encounter it was awesome and I thought I would share.

These deer were young, I think they just dropped their spots. I think what baffled me the most with it was the fact that  they were doing everything a deer would do while I am hunting ( drop their heads and raise it really quick to catch me moving) I would move and they would come closer like they were trying to figure out what I was.  I can honestly say that this is the closest I have ever been to deer just running around doing everyday things. I came inside and told my wife, we got the camera and went back out and they were gone.

The deer in my yard just stand there and look at you, even if you are clapping your hands and yelling at them.

They will move away if you walk towards them.

We have over 400 acres of woodlands behind my house which is home to at least seven deer. The buck has a nice set of antlers. We had twin deer this fall and they are growing like weeds.

Only problem is that they eat our flowers, shrubs and foilage.

But they are not afraid of humans, which is a problem within itself.

I hope no more bowhunters show up behind our house this year. The deer are sitting ducks.

Nice story, I had a similar encounter over the summer. I was standing on my front porch and off to the left (if you have your back to the front door) there is a small pine forest which I had thinned out. Two deer came up and started to look for food at the edge of our lawn and sort of into the pines. Well I felt bad because there wasn't any food, so I went to the garage and grabbed a cup full of cattle corn.

I walked into the pines holding that cup of corn and the buck (which was a 4 pointer) spooked a little and ran maybe 20 yards away but was still watching me. The doe, which we believed was his sister (because they always hung out) walked away a little bit to my shooting stand which I built in the pines to serve as an archery range and stopped.

Well I eased into the pines and I stopped about 5 feet into them and poured some corn into my hand and held it out to her. She looked interested but at the same time skiddish so I decided to sit down. I sat down and the moment I did she started walking towards me. She got within 5 feet of me and just nodded her head. I tried not to make any sudden movements.

Finally the buck felt worried so he leaped off and of course after about 10 minutes of me and her being so close she finally wanted to catch up with her brother so she too leaped off.

With them gone I just threw the corn at the edge of the pines for them to eat later.

It was a nerve wrecking experience but a memorable one to boot. You can never trust a wild animal, but I felt like she was more interested in the corn than me lol.

Good story!

God bless  8-)

This summer we fished a club tournament on a lake near Des Moines, IA.  My partner and I were third "blast" - first "blast" went west and number 2 and us went west.  It was just at safe light and as we approached the spot with #2 would start, we all saw two does, each with a couple of (almost) yearling fawns playing around the edge of the bank - they were not spooked by the boats comming at them and #2 was able to get within about 75 to 100 yards before they ran off - we were right behind them and got to see it all.  It was really fun to watch 'em playing in the water.

I too get to see deer often in my yard they use it as a go between from the state land across the street to the private land behind me. Just saw my first nice buck of the season Sunday morning, it was a nice size eight and was hanging around a doe. We started a collection of pics this year of when we see them.
