Deer Season 2007

My dad owns a share in a 150 acre plot of land in northern Arkansas.  Every year, we head up there for a little Arkansas whitetail action.

It's been pretty slow for the past 5 or so years, but patience and good management made this year one of the best hunting seasons I can remember.  Deer in this part of the country don't grow to be monsters, but everyone in the area has been bringing in very nice deer so far.

The limit where we hunt is 3. (2 bucks and 1 doe(doe can only be taken with archery) So far this year my dad has tagged a doe that weighed around 120lbs (very nice size doe) and a nice 8 point.

8pt  21'' spread:

I also tagged 2 nice eight points:

We've got pictures of the whole deer on a little disposable camera we take in the woods with us, but my dad lost it.

Like I said the racks on these things were quite large for around here, but the bodies on these deer were even bigger, all three weighed in the 170 -190lb range

We haven't reached our limit, but we have plenty of meat for now.

I can just taste the deer steaks

I wish you guys could come here and whack some of ours.  I'm tired of dealing with them.  they make rabbit hunting with dogs almost a nightmare.   We have too many deer here IMO you see them laying next to road everyday.  I can count almost 1 to 2 per mile traveled that have been hit at certain times of the year.  This year due to the drought they have shorten the season saying the deer population was hit hard cause of drought conditions.  This is in my area of the state I don't know about the rest of the state.  But the past couple of years they said the deer pop was too high and needed to be thinned down.  I personally hoped they would leave it open a solid two months for gun season and thin it down more this year.

Hard to control a population when only archers can take a doe.  And only one at that.

congrats hookemdown. one of the guys thats in on our lease was hunting on another piece of land on Thursday and killed a big 8 with a 19 inch inside spread then yesterday he killed a 140 class 15 point non typical.

Burley, that's not our choice, that's not a camp rule.  It's a state regulation.  I think they know what they're doing.  You can tag the doe with modern gun if you have a permit (hard to get)

We don't have as many deer here as you probably think

Thanks sprnbat, I'm still looking for the "biggun"
