Question for LBH

Featured Replies

In all this time I didn't know until a week or so ago that The Family Guy was filmed in Rhode Island.  Where exactly is Quahog and do you know the Griffin's?

well, "Quahog" is the real name for the beautiful New England clams we have in our bay.  Many things around here have Narragansett and Wanpanaug Indian names.  Many Rhode Islanders make their living on the Bay.  Much of the commercial industry here is shellfish, with Lobster and Quahog's being the primary ones.  A clam from our bay has such a distinctive taste.  The closest would be the Mahogany Clam from Maine but even those aren't anywhere near as tasty.  If you like clams, the "Quahog" is the caviar of the sea.

Quahog fact sheet

There are LOTS of little references in that show that go right over your head if you don't live here.  Names of politicians, building names, etc all are funny to hear but have a double meaning if you are from here.  The writers really throw in some good ones once in a while.

Don't know all the Griffin's but I partied with a guy who may very well have been Peter.  This guy's dog talked too.

I actually had looked up Quahog to see if it was a real town or thing.  Didn't know it was the best of the lot.  It did make the name of the bar make sense.

OOOO Ya. If you are from RI or know a lot about the state the show is funnier. James Woods Junior High School, Buddy Cianci, coffee milk, cabinets, clam cakes, all the mobsters and corruption, the Yacht Clubs, traffic and other things, there is sooo much most people dont understand if you are not from RI.

Not to mention THE HILL, the pine-appple, Rocky Point, grinders, and tons of other references.

I do think that Quahog closely resembles Warwick though. I remember one episode where there is a scene that resembles Warwick Neck. There is the beach, a few restuarants and Iggy's is one of them. Also across the water you can see an amusment park... Rocky Point?

Question.

Why do they call that fly spec on the map of New England a state?

I mean, it ain't as big as Brooklyn and that's just one Borough of one city.

I think you Rhode Island guys have delusions of grandeur.

You should an unincorporated village at best.

Oh, and Quahogs have such a distinctive flavor because of all the bodies they pulled out of the bay.

Why do ornery, old people migrate to Florida?  Some things just are the way they are.

We were one of the originals man, tons of great history here.  Don't hate.
