on a compound bow,if we get a 40-50 lb. draw weight, then are u holding the full 40-50 lbs. of weight the whole time.

If your bow is 50 pounds, that is the MAX draw weight, after you get to full draw, the cams kick in and "let off" most of the weight.  So, you end up holding much less weight back.

Look at what the let off is. Mine is 65% off of the peak draw weight.

What bow do you have or which one you looking at.   That will help and we can tell you what your let off is maybe

i am looking at the pse nova and am wondering if thats a good compound bow to begin with.

its about 60-70 lbs of draw and about 37and 1 half inches from axle to axle

The best bow is the one that fits you the best.  So in other words go and shoot as many different bows as you can and get the one that to you feels the best in your hand before, during, and after that shot.  While staying in your budget.

Find your draw length, then try out as many bows as you can. I prefer a shorter axle to axle length, however a longer length makes for a more stable bow.
