If I found out that one of my employees was fishing while I was working harder, I would surely fire them.   But my folks all know that 'going fishing' is a perfectly acceptable reason to ask for a day off, and all they need to do is ask ahead of time.  (I'll probably be going with them:) )

But...I would use a 'family emergency' rather than some kind of BS illness.  (and next time plan ahead )

hard to plan ahead in march with the weather in northern illinois otherwise i would of used a vacation day

Dead relative always works, but I always feel bad when I do that.  Car trouble always works for me.  , or any virus/bug going around i'll say i have it.

I'm with Sam and Hookem down here.  Be responsible and honor your committment to your place of employment.  Depending on where you work, plan a day off.  If the relationship is good with the mgmt. you should be able to work this rather well.  It's fun to kid around about all this, but when you get older and have a family, you will need to set your priorities better.  Feeding your family with a paycheck is so much more important than a day fishing.  Not to sound like a stiff, but tread lightly with this job excuse thing and your workplace.  You may need to cross those bridges again someday.    Just my .02, not a scolding!!

I don't suffer the anguish that you do. My Boss and I fish together and if he's going, so am I:o) Even if he isn't going, he knows how much I love to fish. Ahgagagaga!!

I go by how many points i get for however many days i miss.If i miss one day that's 2 points onto my record.If i get 14 points i get fired.The points fall off after a year of the date you missed.I can also buy back my points.However every 3 months i get a bonus if i don't miss any days!This is how i can buy back points as well.The bonus comes out to $100 a month($300 for 3 months).Needless to say i'm working on my 3rd year of perfect attendant.

I have 2 personals and 2 floater days,i can only use one of each every 6 months.

As long as you don't see any co workers, Pink Eye will get you at least 3 days while your "contagious"
