i know the feeling, a few months ago my parents decided tp put my dog, bilbo down.  he didnt have any diseases or anything, he was just plain old, he was pushing 15 years, and that is really old for a dalmation, normal lifespan is 9-11 years.  he was a great dog and will be missed a bunch.
