In my humble opinion, you can't beat a Kershaw or Benchmade. I have a pretty big collection, and my everyday knife is a Kershaw Ken Onion Whirlwind Speedsafe. Opens one handed in a millisecond. I have three of them and they are fantastic.

i have many knives but i find myself carrying the Gerber EVO Jr. most often. its the perfect size and weight for everyday use. great knife! it only costs 20 bucks too!

Have this knife as well, and I love it. It's my go to carry knife and have yet to find one that is as nice in the same price range

Stick with the gerber, besides if you pay a little bit extra, about $10, you can get a tool kit with it. plus they stay sharp forever.

Most gerber knives are made with 440 steel.  I'm wanting 154cm, which is a better quality steel and holds it's edge considerable better than 440.  I thought about going to D2, but I've always heard it's a pain to sharpen.

only reason i dont carry it often is because it is illegal to carry a switchblade in my state.  :-/

its a great knife, very lightweight, sharp, and holds an edge great! out of all the knives that i own, this is by far my favorite.

There are several different kinds of 440.  440a -sucks.  440c is great, though, and one of the steels that steels were judged by for a long time.  

Buck uses a 440-something.  However, Paul Bos does there heat treat and he is the best bar none.

There are three things in a knife steel-corrosion resistance, edge retention, and ease of sharpening.  154cm is a good combination of all three.  D2 holds an edge better but is a pain to resharpen.  M2 is the same way.  There are charts online that list the knife steels and there attributes.
