What lures are best for...

Featured Replies

I'm fishing a local lake tommorrow, it's about 40 acres with an average depth of 9-10 ft. It has cypress trees all over the place. The lake has cypress trees in the middle of the lake and down the banks. The deepest place I found trolling was 10.2 ft. and this was a small drop off. There a lot of fish in this old lake but I've been told it's hard to catch them.

Attached is an aerial view of the lake, you can see the cypress trees. It's not very deep but there a lots of fish in it, it's on the river but doesn't connect to it, the river does get into this lake when it floods.

Any suggestions on what to use?

I'd be fishing a spinnerbait and a black buzzbait by the trees.

Early morning i would have to throw a Pop'R right next to those trees. Then I would throw a spinnerbait, TX Rigged Brush Hawgs, and possibly a senko.

I'd use a wakebait like the Ima Roumba or the O.S.P Daibuzzn.

It works for me at this time of year.

I'd be bouncing some cranks off of those trees.

fish the trees that are out away from the others and the ones closer to the deeper water. This is where you will find the larger fish.

Seriously maybe it's just me but I have had huge success with jigs pitched or flipped to the base of trees so far this year. Mainly 3/8 flippin jigs with a berkley beast for a trailer.

Spinnerbaits have also been productive bounced off the sides the stumps as well.

Well, it was an overall good day. VERY HOT but good day.

I started out with a Cavitron Buzzbait in Chart/White and only got one keeper. I switched to a 3/8 oz. Chart/White Spinnerbait and caught several keepers. I also caught a 1 lb 3 oz. Crappie on the same spinnerbait, it was fun. Once the spinnerbait died I threw a crankbait with no success so I picked up my good old Red Shad worm. I caught more keepers with the Red Shad worm and ended the day still using the worm.

I will add that there was a big cypress tree that had fell into the water and I flipped a Netbait Paca Craw into the top and hooked a fine 4+ lber, I fought her about 3 mins and when I got her close to the boat she wrapped it and the line snapped. I was so mad but it happens.

We brought 13 bass and my one nice crappie to the house, we're having fish tonight! ;D

Normally I do not keep anything but I took a friend and I let him keep a few. It's more less a private lake so it's all good. Not to mention anything over 2-3 lbs. goes back, only can keep fish under 2 lbs.

It looks like an old road goes thru one side of that lake, I would key there if you get to fish it again, throw spinnerbaits, frogs, and a DT8 crank all along that thing.
