Fulmer out at UT!

Sorry to see him go.

He had a wonderful career at UT and it is a shame that winning trumps running a good program.

Maybe Tubby will bring his ears from Auburn over to UT.

Or Nick Satan will jump for UT if the money is right.  ;)

Phil has my gratitude as a Vol fan for his loyalty, dedication and love of the program. We had many great seasons including the 98 National Championship. I hope this all gets handled with the dignity he deserves. Not taking anything away from his accomplishments I do think it is time for the change.

The speculation for a replacement has begun like wildfire in the Volunteer nation. I am hopeful we will lure Butch Davis away from the Tarheels.

Mack Brown is the coach at UT.

Fulmer has been an outstanding coach at UT but he has also had problems. He tends to let a lot of stellar instate recruits go elsewhere, he has had a problem with picking players with discipline issues and having to let them go. Also, the last four seasons he is 6-14 against ranked opponents and now this year he is 1-5 in the sec. It's time for a change sadly.

I sure hate to see him go. They probably won't be a pushover for long. Was hoping he would hang around. Maybe he can find a nice retirement home somewhere in Alabama.

At least he'd like for you to think that. ::)

I've always felt like he's been surrounded by a greater group of assistants and players, especially when Vince Young was there. It was always like watching a bunch of 7 year olds play with a 14 year old as QB on the local school grounds. Give the ball to the big kid and let him do what he wishes.

Either way, he knows how to get it done.  You can't argue with that.

Any speculation about where Fulmer might coach next? I heard possibly Clemson but I would think going from the SEC to the ACC would be kinda like taking a step backwards.

one word....FINALLY!!!

I haven't heard anything yet on where he will be going. He seemed very upset and I'm not sure if he'll be ready to accept a new job. He was pretty shook up at the press conference. I felt bad for him. I don't think he was doing what was necessary to win with the UT program but it seems like he got treated pretty bad by the Athletic Department.

Clemson is a very good program and he'd still get to wear orange... :o

Anybody think his coordinators will stay? In my opinion if he would have gotten rid of Chavez a couple of years ago and kept Cutcliffe things would be A-OK

IMHO the new coach will bring in his own staff.

Yea I can't imagine a coach coming in and not bringing his own people.

have heard houston nutt is interested in clemson.

good coach that can get to the top at a school with big pockets in the acc than he ever did with a school with big pockets in the sec.

am just saying.

How about this for a far out idea.....

Get someone for the time being who is proven but a bit older....

AND THEN....BRING IT BACK IN THE FAMILY....

Upon NFL retirement bring back Peyton as head coach and Al Wilson as def coordinater  :o

Peyton has said in interviews that when he retires he wants to coach. I'm sure the city of Knoxville would rename the city after him in order to get him there as a coach if need be. That won't be the case though  :)
