Entreprenuer idea

Featured Replies

So I basically spend all my time trying to come up with ideas for small businesses that I can start which will make me rich.  I never end up following through on the ideas, mainly because I'm lazy, but it's still fun.  Anyway, I have one that I thought of, and want to run it by you guys to see if you have heard of anything like this, or know of any similar companies in your area.

I spent a lot of time in college planning and running fundraisers for my fraternity or charities that our fraternity supported.  So I think to myself, I'm pretty good at that.  My idea is to start a business which plans and executes fundraisers for charitable organizations (PTA's, churches, other non-profits), and take a percentage of the final amount.  What do you guys think?  (Yes, I know it's a little parasitic, but money still gets raised for charities)

Lotta places do it.  Think BSA popcorn.  Also, my high school band always sells fruit from the Indian River Groves, which arrange the whole fundraiser deal.  Certain schools use them too.  I think Sally Foster comes to mind.

If I understand you, that's not exactly what I'm talking about.  In high school, band members would walk around with boxes of "World's Finest Chocolate Bars" (which actually are great) and sell them for a buck each, then pay about half that back to the chocolate company.  That's not what I mean.  I'm talking more about organizing large scale events, not just bake sales and candy

About ten-years ago my wife and I attended a small convention in Richmond, Virginia where people were there selling franchises.

One franchise was to sell Disney products to schools and other organizatins for fund raisers and to get them into grocery stores, etc.

I investigated this idea and found out there there are companies out there that offer franchised territorities to people to sell candy and other items for fundraisers but no one on the selling end makes any money and is usually stuck with unsold product.

Check out your idea on the web by Googling these types of ventures and see what comes up.

Remember, baby boomers are coming along so they will need goods and services so maybe you need to rethink your enterprise.  ;)

This is a red flag to me. I've never owned a business, but I've read many times that successful small business owners work extraordinarily hard and a huge number of hours.

Being in business for yourself is a 24/7/365 and you never have to worry about going on a diet to lose weight.

Yep. To run a business you have to have a GOOD work ethic and a will to do it. Lazy doesn't cut it.

Unless it's a really, really, really good idea. Then you can be lazy after you start it up and still make a bunch. Of course, you would always make more money if you work harder.

I plan on starting a business within the next 5 years, and I plan on working my titties off  :-?

I've come up with a lot of ideas over the years. Not all of them unique but entrepenurial none the less.

I thought about jumping into the video sales market when there was only at most 1 to a large area.

We had kids youg, when we wanted to go back to our high school for a game our little ones were board. I thought about developing a charachter to go to HS and minor league ball parks. Then if it would have worked I wold have hired a network of college gymnast types and had multiple charcters running around. This was at a time when only the San Diego Chicken existed!

I've thought about auto pickup services right at places of employment for taking peoples cars to dealers and smaller shops. This was at a time when none of that was offered.

I've had multiple other very good ones.

I think my calling should have been as an idea guy.
