Featured Replies

I am looking at buying the Nikon D90 SLR camera.

It is pretty sweet, it has HiDef movie recording and I am getiing a great deal.

Anyone have any opinions about this camera, or other cameras brands

like Canon?

I had a similar question not too long ago.  I ended up with the Nikon D40.

From all the opinions I received, you wont be disappointed with Nikon.  I have taken some pictures with it already, and it is a very sweet camera.

Nikon or Canon, either one.  I've used Canons for 35 years.  Why?, just because I started with them and lenses usually worked on newer bodies (for a while) so I didn't have to start all over buying a collection of lenses if I changed brands.  I have 5 digital Canons right now and may get the D50 soon.

It is a very nice camera.  Nikon considers the D40 and 60 to be their cameras for people learning DSLR, or who use them for family type setups.  The D80 and 90 are grouped as their semi-professional/experienced amateur line.  You are getting a better AF lens servo, more focus areas, and a slightly better exposure metering system with a D80 or 90 over the 40 and 60.

if your buying decisions is being effected at all b/c of the movie recorder I would drop down and save money.  I've heard countless people say, regardless of brand, that the movie recorder function is worthless.

I agree with matt on that. It has its time and place, as a backup, but cameras are cameras, and camcorders are camcorders.  You need a high capacity card for much video content and if I am not mistaken it will only operate upto 8GB SD cards.

In regards to the previous two posts ....

I totally agree with you, however I have heard the D90 is different.  It supposedly has a fully capable and quality video recorder.  Like I said though, this is just what I have heard.  No first hand experience.

Nikon has some sort of forum that a friend of mine is active on.  Nikonians.com or something like that.  Might be able to find better info over there.

If you happen to get it please post a review.  I hope to buy my first DSLR in the near future and the D90 has really piqued my interest.
