Dumbest thing I've ever done...

Featured Replies

So I've been up in Chicago for a couple months now, not really having much luck finding a job.  Well, I think I may have figured out why I wasn't getting calls about my resume submissions.

I changed my phone number when I moved, and committed the wrong number to memory.  It's supposed to be "576-...." but instead, I have been saying it was "567-...."  I figured that out late last night, and I don't think I have ever felt so embarrassed in my entire life.

To make matters worse, when you call the number that I thought was mine, it's a chinese woman that doesn't speak any english.  Terrific.

I did something fairly similar, probably dumber, last fall.  I was sending my "rough draft" resume out to recruiters and online job boards for about a month and half.  And I mean a very rough draft.  There was absolutely no format except for the header.  All the rest of it was basically brain stormed phrases I came up with one day to help me write my resume.

Luckily I landed a temp job through a friend for a few weeks.  When I went to update my resume, I finally discovered my mistake. :-[ :-[  Finding a job was still tough as hell, but at least then I was getting some interest and interviews (just about immediately).  I worked 3 more temp jobs over the next 4 months and I finally landed a regular full time job that I just started Monday.  It's not really what I want to be doing, but it's good enough for now until the job market starts turning round.

Good Luck!!  Keep your head up
