Now that you got me thinking football...

Featured Replies

The TO thread got me thinking the other way. While in college, I had a job renting cars at the Sheraton in Cheektowaga, NY. I ran the gift shop as part of that job. The Bills used to stay there before home games.

I had the chance to meet most of the Bill then (the Super Bowl team). Probably the best guys I ever met were Bruce Smith and Thurman Thomas. They would come in and joke around, they seemed to have a really down to earth, blue collar way to them. They would talk to you without talking down to you, just like a couple of normal dudes chatting with ya.

I met a lot of other players like Jim Kelly and while they were cordial, they were not really as much down to earth.

Anyone here ever get the chance to meet NLF, or even MLB players like that? I always found it curious with the celebrities I have met, those that were real people and some that were just total snobs.

I had a chance to meet Brett Favre, he was a very down to earth guy. When I was a kid, my neighbors bred and sold chocolate labs, he happened to purchase one from them. He went to the house when he was picking up the dog and we were grilling out, he had a burger and I got to play catch with him. Still have the football we played catch with, signed in a case.

Reggie Jackson....Sat next to me at Tiger Stadium the night before Oakland was to play the tigers, 1971 or 72.  Never met a more down to earth super guy before.  He walked around the section with a wad of money in his hand betting(small bets) people what each player would do at bat or if the pitcher were going to throw a strikeout, things of the nature, needless to say he won most of the bets.  Everyone in the stands loved him, he's a great guy.
