New to swimbaits. need advice plz

Featured Replies

I hear that swimbaits catch some HUGE fish but what about 1-3lb bass, will they eat them too? There arn't a whole lot of really big fish but every so often I catch one, but  the usual is like 1.5lbs. are swimbaits worth my attention? They sure do look neat!

Ya I use a 3.5 inch swim bait or 3 inch and I catch plenty.  I haven't yet caught a HUGE fish but I attribute this to the small size of the lure I'm using.  I feel if I was using a 5inch that my numbers would fall drastically but I would catch larger bass.  I've caught many fish off the 3 inch and the biggest was probably 2.5 lbs.

What kind of hooks do you use, ive seen the kind that have a weight on them that i think are supposed to keep them running upright?

I use the Storm swimming minnow, its already pre rigged with a hook in it.  Flukes are different you can use them weighted or weightless with a gama hook 2/0 or 3/0 depending on what you want your setup like.  Flukes are great as well.

i wouldn't call a fluke a swimbait, but for a 3.5 in swimbait im guessing you should use a 4/0 hook and having the wieghted one would probably help

Yeah true, it falls more under soft plastic, but I've always considered it a swim bait, weird tendencies... :)

Try the Swim Senko, if that's getting clobbered, try something bigger.

Been having pretty good success on a certain 5" bait. Believe me....I have had 7" bass hit this thing and get stuck. Your numbers will not go down and the chances of a larger fish go way up. Pulled a nice 3.8 out of my dads pond the other day with mine.

Hi I am new to swim baits what type of retrive do you put to them. Just reel straight back or what. and what are some good colors to use thanks
