Anybody familiar with the models you get in this package? On the surface it seems like a good deal....am I missing something? What questions should be asked before buying?

Depending on what you're looking to get out of the package, it could be fine, but here are some personal opinions.

I'm guessing that performance for the slimline desktop would most likely be roughly on par with the laptop. Both would be okay if all you want are machines for web browsing, office work, and light applications like that.

3D Games would probably be a nightmare, as both are pretty underpowered in comparison to a good gaming rig.

I have no experience with netbooks, but from what I understand they are exclusively for web browsing, so it should work pretty well for that.

One thing I don't like about Slimline desktop cases is that they are notoriously bad at dissipating heat, due to poor airflow. This is one reason that they can't handle intensive applications like gaming. It'd be like taking an ultralight rig tarpon fishing - anything's possible but it's not really the right gear for the job. I'd also have doubts about the lifespan of the desktop. If the processor constantly runs hot it won't last long.

I think a good portion of what you're paying for in the combo is the Geek Squad service call to set up your wireless network.

Final word - if you just want 3 machines for family web browsing and homework, it's probably a good deal.

When a new O/S is introduced, a lot of sellers take there in stock machines and do just the minimal updates to get the machines to run the new software and if you use them for much more than web browsing, yo find out pretty fast how inadequite the machines are. I would also agree that B.B. is selling there Geek Squad services more than a really good unit, that of course is just my $0.02 worth.
