  1. Just throwing some speculation out there, but could it also be that you're setting the hook too hard, which caused the line to snap from the impact? The fraying sounds like what you would see if you an overrun locks your spool mid-cast, which

  7. Because change is bad. People are often afraid of what seems strange and unusual, and mass produced straight guides are proven sellers.
  8. I got one as a gift, 6.3:1 ratio, paired with a 2 piece 5'6" Exceler rod. I've thought about pairing it with a different rod, but so far I haven't decided yet what I want to do with it. I've had it out a couple times, and it seems like a decent reel, but it's definitely not my "I gotta get another one of these" combo. I've tried it with both spinners and a Texas rig. Casting is pretty decent at around 1/2 oz, but the retrieves felt a little strained with big bladed spinners. All in all, I think the combo is destined to live in my car. It'll probably work well if I just want to get an hour in after work or as a loaner for a friend. I don't think I would buy another one for myself though.

  11. I loved the VW Vader commercial, but hated that they cut out so much. Reply ALL was pretty funny too.
  12. At least it wasn't Ke$ha. I liked the Black Eyed Peas halftime more than Springsteen two years ago or The Who last year - and Classic Rock is usually my first choice on the tuner. Black Eyed Peas just happen to be a group that I really like. You can bash popular music all you like, but at the end of the day, it's popular for a reason. A lot of people like it. The performers may not be playing instruments, they might be using Autotune to correct for poor singing, but their shows bring in money. There needs to be a mix of half time performers from year to year to draw different audiences. 50 year old white guys aren't the only ones that watch football.
  13. The free prelims on Spike were better than the Pay Per View fights. Cerrone's choke was awesome.
  14. Learned some much better knots than what I was tying previously, which has saved me from a lot of "break offs". General rigging tips

  16. I still have a 20 year old Quantum Snapshot spinning reel in service... on a Rhino Rod. That was my top of the line setup when I was 16.

  18. First step --- get off the internet Reboot your PC into Safe Mode. You can usually do this by hitting F8 while the system is rebooting, which should bring up a selection menu. Safe Mode is basically a mode with no networking/internet connectivity. Once you're in Safe Mode, try to rerun your Virus scanners. If it doesn't work, try restoring to a recent Windows Restore Point (From the Windows Control Panel)
  19. X INFINITY!! Dead sticking a senko has to be the most retardedly slow and boring way to fish. I might as well get a tub of minnows and a bobber! So, why blame the lure? Deadsticking is the technique.
  20. It's not necessarily ominous. Maybe they're just focusing on turning out bait and not on designing a webpage.
  21. Mine came from a Paula Poundstone show where she interviews a guy who was attacked by a shark. It bit his head and dragged him out to sea before letting go. Paula made a comment similar to "Oh, so just like getting a nice little shark hat", and I laughed until I couldn't breathe anymore. I've been using the name online ever since. (no, the guy in the avatar is not me)
  22. I think I'd be concerned about the integrity of the blank at the transition points. If the action isn't consistent (or at least a smooth transition) I think it would introduce unnecessary stress points.
  23. It's very acceptable to ask questions during your interview. In fact, it shows your interviewer that you're not only interested, but that you've given things some thought beforehand. Example: "I may have some time commitments for school and extra-curricular activities this year. Will it be possible for me to work around those commitments with my manager?"
