  1. I think it's on The History Channel actually. They try too hard to be funny and I think it's pretty lame.
  2. I guess I should qualify that what I dislike about the term finesse fishing is the view that it just means fishing a smaller bait. Finesse = subtlety and skill
  3. It easily could have been from overtightening. I was a kid and probably didn't know any better. And, of course, I didn't have any place like this to ask questions. My dad was never interested in bass fishing, so I learned everything from trial and error back then. Mostly error actually.
  4. Not really worried about the scratching, it just came out while I was typing. My main thoughts were about how since the whole thing is one piece, screwing it down tends to push the front of the reel to the side.
  5. I'm with ya GMAN. This is the first time we've had a foot of snow from a single snowfall in the St. Louis area for a pretty long time.
  6. I was looking at the AG Verdict and Veritas rods and noticed that their screwdowns were one piece. I haven't had a rod with a one piece screwdown in a long time, but I remember not liking the way they had a tendency to torque the reel when tightening it down. It also seems to me that they might scratch up the foot of the reel. Mind you, my experience with this is from years ago when I was using Rhino Rods. The Verdicts look interesting to me, so I was wondering if this is still a problem with that style of reel seat, specifically on the Verdicts.
  7. Congrats Nate!
  8. I would add a couple words of caution. Don't do this with a stone that has not been properly lapped itself. If the stone itself is not perfectly flat, you won't be gaining anything on the drag washer and could actually introduce more irregularity to the surface.
  9. I like using the fluoro leader for a couple reasons. I talked myself into trying it for the "best of both worlds" reasons, getting the sensitivity of braid with the invisibility of fluoro at the lure. But, I've stuck with it for different reasons. First - if you retie a lot, whether for a lure switch or just to maintain knot integrity, that could mean cutting out a lot of braid. That gets expensive. I like only having to cut out braid when I'm replacing the leader. A spool of fluoro lasts a long time when you're only using 6 to 8 feet at a time. Second - if you have to break off a snag, it's a fairly safe bet that you'll break off at the leader. Again, saving your main line.
  10. Here's a good web tool that you can use to find out: http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/
  11. Cleaned mine out of Rage Anacondas and Yum Dingers. Also picked up a couple Rapalas that I thought would be fun to try.
  12. You could tie some braid to that for pulling it back up if it fails to free your lure.
  13. It's definitely not a forum setting. It's very common for workplaces to block sharing sites like Photobucket and others.
  14. Sunlight is another factor. Even on low air temp days, water can absorb heat from the sun. Dang, now I want some sun tea.
  15. I've been neglecting the bobbers and hot dogs for about 25 years
  16. RLR - you can connect an external Hard Drive to your DVR, as long as it uses an eSATA connector. It takes the place of the internal hard drive and doesn't act as though you have two separate places to store your recordings. Details here DirecTV On Demand does require internet connectivity, and is not instant streaming. It takes a while to download the content, and you usually have to wait for at least 15% to be completed before you can watch, depending on the length of the program. I don't think wireless is available.
  17. No. What he's saying is that if you put out 35 feet of line and twitch a worm, that stretches it to 42 feet. No, that's really not what he's saying at all.
  18. They were close, but not an exact match. The Lost numbers won $150
  19. I've been thinking about giving YoZuri Hybrid a try in 12lb. It seems to be very well regarded.
  20. I would keep working at my current job for a while - at least until they fired me for calling in "rich" every day. "Yeah, uh ... boss? I'm too rich to come to work today. *cough cough*"
  21. I'm gonna spend more time dock fishing with a lawn chair and a bobber (or maybe some catfish sinker rigs) in the interest of getting my 3 year old son started in the game. Cold beverages in the cooler may also be involved.
  22. That was an amazing scene!
  23. This is solved by using a leader. If you have to break off, you'll break the leader and not compromise the braid. This also saves a lot of braid if you retie a lot, as you'll be cutting off leader instead of braid. A filler spool lasts a long time when you're using it this way.
