  1. I sure hope that all of that time and money spent researching "secret" spots was spent enjoying fishing
  2. Weightless plastics. I used to always be a fan of heavy jigs and spinnerbaits because bigger was always better - but I'm changing my ways.
  3. My daddy told me a story once about a creek, a paddle, and an outhouse.... I was never any good at remembering stories.
  4. I switched to an old school safety razor that uses replacement razor blades. The blades are cheaper, last longer, shave better, and on and on.
  5. I've had times like that. If you're finding that losing a lot of expensive hard baits is taking some of the enjoyment out of your fishing trips, switch things up and fish nothing but plastics for a while. You can still cover a few different techniques throughout the water column, and you can rig weedless to cut down on snags. If you do have to cut it loose, you're only leaving a buck and a half in the lake or hanging in a tree.
  6. I like deep dish, but St. Louis style is far superior.
  7. I don't know if fishing is open to the public, they're kind of weird out there. I do know that you can rent a condo, which I'm sure would entitle you to fish anywhere on the property. I think they claim there are over 100 lakes, but some of the ones they count are little more than golf course water hazards that happen to be named "Bob". The fishable lakes are pretty awesome though, especially Alpine and Aspen. All of the lakes are electric/manpower only. I don't think you can even launch a boat that has a gas outboard mounted.
  8. I've mostly been fishing Innsbrook and a private lake in Union lately. Something in the K&N area would be awesome for weekends when I'm on call and need to stay within pager range though.
  9. Grew up in Spanish Lake, now I'm living in Weldon Springs near K and 40. I'm a shore stalker too.
  10. The red color disappears, not the line (or hook).
  11. Not after my feet have been soaking it
  12. Why are self centering spinning reels (with a trigger for the bail) so hard to find? When I was a teenager these were the first kind of reel that I upgraded to after spincasting, but now I think the Shimano Spirex is the only one I've found that's decent quality. I've always though it was so much easier to grab the line and the trigger at the same time. Holding the line and flipping the bail with my other hand just feels clumsy now. Is it because they have some built-in backplay instead of instant AR?
  13. Actually, what I think he was saying is that you may have avoided the problem without actually fixing the problem. The line butter may have helped you get some hassle free fishing in, but it didn't fix the underlying cause of the problem.
  14. I think the small initial gain in flash would be vastly outweighed by the amount of effort required to keep them polished. I'd venture that Nickel/Chrome is so prominent because of the combination of flash, durability, and corrosion resistance.
  15. Anything involving a red and white bobber
  16. SharkHat replied to owl's topic in Fishing Tackle
The red color fading after 10 feet doesn't imply that the hook becomes invisible, it just means it doesn't look red.
  17. Switching browsers is not a fix, it's a workaround at best. It's a possibility that if you're running a lot of different malware/adware/virus protection programs, that they are fighting for control over the protection of your browser. You could try disabling them all, checking your performance, and then start turning them on one by one, with performance checks afterward, to see where you run into problems.
  18. Fletch! License to kill gophers by the government of the United Nations. Man, free to kill gophers at will. To kill, you must know your enemy, and in this case my enemy is a varmint. And a varmint will never quit - ever. They're like the Viet Cong - Varmint Cong. So you have to fall back on superior intelligence and superior firepower. And that's all she wrote.
  19. The palomar is really popular. It's strong, easy to tie, and has pretty much zero slip. http://www.animatedknots.com/palomar/index.php
  20. Bull Durham "In other news the Prime Minister of Sweden visited Washington today and my tiny little nipples went to France."
  21. Gladiator I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up DOES rejoice. Still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone. I guess I just miss my friend.
  22. Believe it or not, Coach. Definitely pricier than Rolfs, but great quality leather. http://www.coach.com/online/handbags/-men_walletscardcases-10551-10051-90-en?t1Id=82&t2Id=90&tier=2
  23. I love the new Camaro. Sadly though, it falls to the Aston Martin Vanquish in my list http://www.cargurus.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/aston_martin_vanquish.jpg
  24. Unfortunately I can't really stand either fighter, but BJ has fought some of the best in multiple weight classes, so I have to give him the advantage. Experience and his freak flexibility, and I just don't see Sanchez being that effective.
