knot for spinner bait?

Recommended Posts

I use the Palomar for everything but spinnerbaits. For those I use the San Diego Jam Knot. For me, it's just faster and easier to tie on bulky baits.

Clinch knot works for me with spinnerbaits.

Was reading down through here and thought I was the only one until I got to this last post.  I use the clinch knot cause the palomar is too hard to tie with a bait like a spinnerbait or buzzbait, the blades are too cumbersome to put through the loop of line.

For those who think the clinch knot will untie itself (it has on me in the past) I found out that when you put the tag end through the bottom loop and then put it back through the top loop again, it's better to insert it through the top loop by going in behind and pulling through instead of just putting it back through again from the front as what is shown to do on the animated knot website.  Once I began doing this it stopped all the issues I had with it unraveling itself while pulling it tight.

I to use the clinch knot for spinnerbaits.  Have lost some spinners because the knot appeared to have come loose.  I will use the palomar now.

I use a palomar for any single hook type of thing (texas rig, jig head, jig) and an improved clinch (cinch) knot for any big baits.

I have no problems with either...make sure you lubricate the line with some spit before you tighten any knot up!

For big baits or anything too cumbersome for the

Palomar Knot, I recommend the Sixteen-Twenty

(also know as the Pitzen and Duncan Knot).

You can actually tie a palomar "in the air".

Double about 6-8' of line. (or as much as you can do with practice)

Tie an overhand know and leave open a 2" circle.

Reach through the single loop with you thumb and fore finger. (all the while holding the doubled line in your other hand) and grab the doubled circle.

Pull it through the single loop.

Rotate your thumb and fore finger and open them, spreading the doubled loop.(this action ''flips" the now tightened single loop.

Drop the spinnerbait blades through the double loop, moisten and pull tight.

Viola!

Fishing tip of the year winner here!!!  That's gotta be the best thing I've read on this site.   ;)

Clinch knot works for me with spinnerbaits.

The only line failure I've ever had with CXX using this knot with spinnerbaits is from northerns biting me off.
