Putting jig fishing in prospective

With all the questions recently I thought I would add this for all you newbie's to chew on

How long was it before you caught your first bass on a Jig-N-Craw?

For me even on Toledo Bend it took a couple years   ;)

I only started using jigs this season and havent really thrown them that much but this past saturday I used a black and blue jig with a zoom super chunk and finally cought my first jig fish

I started using them at the beginning of last year and most of my bass were caught on them.

But, I made myself fish them and nothing else for most of the year.

Umm It was either the first time I used it I caught my biggest bass (10lbs , it was really lucky in the wintertime too...) or it was spring, which took also the first trip... I'm a lil hazy, I started using jigs in the 7th grade, which I'm glad I did, because I feel it benefited my fishing greatly in the spring and winter time!!!

What I'm talking about is how long it took you to become proficient enough to use a jig with confidence enough to keep one rod on the deck at all times.

took me about a month to gain confidence in using a jig/pig or jig/craw. or any jig, for that matter. however, as for catching bass that came instantly. it's always been a top producer. i'd say of most any lure a jig has the least learning curve to it. once you figure out a standard and swimming retrieve there's not much to it. the rest is locating the fish...the most important part.

Oh in that case, I just recently keep one on at all times... so 6 years? lol

6 weeks give or take....Got my first jig fish in 2 weeks in practicing and working the heck out of it.6 weeks later i realize i'm more proficient with a jig than anything else and since then i alway have one tied on.I have Joe S. to thanks because he was really the one who got me hooked on jigs.

I've even caught fish in 30 degrees temps and lakes half frozen....it's the only lure i really know how to work. It's a confidence thing for me i guess.

Having a jig rod on the deck at all times coincided completely with when I really learned how to fish deep structure.  That was back in 1989 or 1990.  I knew HOW to fish a jig before then but that is when I learned WHERE and WHY to fish the jig and ALWAYS had one tied on.

I started using them at the start of the summer last year and it took me a few days before I caught something on them. Now I use them all the time with confidence, and if I had enough rods I would have one on all the time. I even caught my PB of 6lbs late august last year too

When I first started trying for bass it was the 3rd bait (even before plastics) that I learned to use. It was brown and orange 1/4oz jig with orange and brown Uncle Josh ;)...

Right now, I only have two usable rods and I keep one tied on at all times.  I've only been bass fishing seriously for about 4 years.  (All saltwater marshes before that)  I wanted to learn the jig my 1st year of bass fishing.  So I've had one tied on at all times for about 3 years.  Small, grass choked Ft. Hood ponds don't count.  I've got other flipping tools for them ;)

Once I get my boat in the next few months and once I pick up a few more rods, I will have one, maybe two, dedicated to jigs...depending on where I'm fishing and what I need to do.

I had tried a jig here and there for a couple years, and didn't catch a fish so I didn't have any confidence in it.  Then on one trip a buddy of mine made me use jigs and only jigs until I caught a fish, said he'd leave me there at the lake if I didn't catch a bass on a jig.  After the first fish everything changed, I caught several more and now I use jigs all the time.  I thank him all the time for making me use jigs that day, I wouldn't have stuck with it without all of his harassment.  ;)
