any car audio guys?

Featured Replies

I was wondering if anyone can recommend me a good online car audio site. I am planning on replacing all the speakers in my car along with a new deck.

Crutchfield is a good one. If you purchase a deck $129.99 and up they will send you the wire harnesses, antenna adapters, and fit kit for free. Most stores will charge you around 40-60 bucks for that stuff. They should also have the speaker guide for your vehicle. They also have great customer service. They are not the cheapest out there, but they make it a pain free process.

x2 when i was in the thick of things, this was the only mag i was subscribed to. (ok, the only 'other' mag i was subscribed to, LOL)

LBH (wherever he is) used to be a pro-installer / competition winner if you wanna drop him a line.

I have only used Crutchfield once but it was a hassle free experience. Also LBH is he like a Bass Fishing mythological creature? Like the mythical Pegasushimano the creature that has shimano reels affixed to its horn.

Ill definitely have to check them out. I have a 91 caprice wagon and only ONE left side speaker works. It has driven me NUTS. The little old man I bought it from must've blew all the rest out  ;D.

I hope its not a Bose system in that Caprice. If so, you are looking at replacing the entire system, wiring and all, more than likely.

No, not the bose, I also heard those were a PITA. I got your PM stripes and appreciate the help. Just haven't returned it yet. I am on a pretty tight budget and need to get by pretty cheap, I had a pioneer deck in my cart (the 129.99 deal where you get the install stuff free) with some eclipse 6x9's and 4x6's. Im not entering this thing in an audio show. I just want some decent sound lol. How are eclipse speakers? Also I just noticed that the wiring harness that comes with that package for my car is out of stock (crap).

Crutchfield is the best.  I have done business with the before and it was fast and easy.  Great place, and they also will be able to answer any of your questions.

You can go to http://www.metraonline.com/fit.aspx and find the harness number and search around for it. The cost is a couple bucks to produce it and I used to sell them for around $15-$20 huge mark up on those things. Eclipse used to be a huge name in the industry and you will enjoy them I'm sure. Are they going to give you a pioneer harness?

I just did a quick search on metra for a 91 chevy caprice wagon. You can recheck it if you want, but this should be the one. The 1858, crutchfield might say which they suggest as well.

I don't think it was a pioneer harness. Also should I be fine with my stock wiring if I just plan to replace the stock speakers and ad a couple 12's?

The reason I ask if they gave you a pioneer harness is because the 1858 will connect to your car harness and the 1858 will make the one end universal. With that universal end you will than connect it to the pioneer harness from your radio to the 1858.

Car Harness--> <---1858---><----Pioneer---><--Deck-->

If you don't get the harnesses you could always just solder by hand it will just take a little while.

You say 12's so are you talking about subwoofers? If you are talking subwoofers you will need the subs an amp and an amp kit which would include a fuse block, 8 or 10 gauge wire, ground wire, speaker wire, and RCAs. They run around 40-60 bucks. When you add subs it gets pricey. You will need to decide on what subs you would like to go with then find an amp that will best fit your sub or subs selection then the amp kit. The cost will usually be about $300 for a basic sub setup brand new.

i only use crutchfield for their speaker fitment guide and to buy headunits since they come with the mounting hardware.

for speakers - ikesound.com , onlinecarstereo , hifisoundconnection , and a few others are slipping my mind. ive done business with all of them and have been pleased. always make sure to CALL first before placing an order. especially through ikesound.

for subs , i could be here all day. it really comes down to your budget and what your overall goals are. i used to live on caraudio.com/forum before i lost my job and seriously got into fishing. i must warn you though , you will want to have thick skin because members there are not as friendly as the ones here , lol. search first. if you have any further questions , you can shoot me a message on here or on AIM - soldiersensi.

since everyone likes pics/vids , heres some of mine..

Nice setup sqhertz. I definitely agree with sqhertz on the goals statement. Some people want to break glass and some people just want a little bump to their music. Once you figure out what you want and a price range I would go to sqhertz he can help you with the wiring and matching subs and amps probably a lot better than I could.

lol thanks. ive had quite a few setups , from an 8" sub on ~350wrms to a single 15" on 1kw in the video in a 3.8 cuft @ 30hz box... i miss it.  >:(
