Johnson/Knaus

Since the Danica thread is such a success.......... ;D

I really think the Jimmy/Chad combo is impressive as hell.  They have the game down to a science.  I don't think ANYONE could possibley knock their success.

That said, I'm getting tired of seeing such a dominant team.  I'm not saying anything is wrong or something should be changed,  I'd just like to see someone come along a knock them down a few pegs.

Will he make it 5?? Sheesh  :-/

They could make it five in a row.  Gordon had his hayday with Evernham.  For whatever reason, Ray wanted out.  Neither he nor Jeff have enjoyed the success they once had together.

ya i hope gordan makes a come back and wins the chase because hes my fav driver.

I watch almost every NASCAR race and either go to Daytona or Homestead at leat once a year.  I have no FAVORITE driver.  I look at each race, qualifying and who's doing what that weekend..........Then I root for 2-3 drivers to do well.  There's a few drivers I don't really care for but I even root for them sometimes,  based on my mood.  Right now, I'd like to see a few teams give Jimmy and Chad some heartburn.

I am a JJ fan, so I hope he can make it 5 in a row. And yes, I have liked him since he started racing in what is now the Sprint Cup series. I'm far from a band-wagoner, I'm a Redskins fan. He isn't doing anything illegal. They have a check before every race to make sure of it. I don't care who you are, you can't cheat on anything for this long and not get caught.

you can cheat, just almost imposible to get away with.  i want to say that a couple years back a driver got away with it and it surfaced a couple races later.  Also this isnt cheating but they arent aloud to stand on the roofs of the cars if they win now due to the fact the car may fail the end race inspection if the roof is dinted lol.  but they do have a pre race inspection, post race inspection, and they have inspections on pit crew during every pit stop.

I can stand JJ or Gordon, to much  political correctness going on for me. Saying that..

Johnson/Knaus are probably the most talented duo to ever hit the series.  It easily appears that they have some cheat, I really doubt they do they're just that good.

I haven't followed nascar as munch the last few years. But it is very hard to cheat in nascar any more. From what I hear nascar provides every thing but the engine and car. If I remember right nascar provides some engine parts including the carb and pistons. All the cars have the same shape today also. The only thing Different between the four makes are the stickers and engines. So its not jjs fault that he can drive the same car the other 42 guys are driving better. I don't like him but he can drive. Here's my question. Would Jimmie be 4 time champ with the old points system? No I have seen around the internet were people used the old system to figure out the point champ. According to what I saw JJ would have one it once. Here's a Link. http://en.allexperts.com/q/NASCAR-Racing-2068/2009/1/championship-old-points-method.htm So I think nascar needs to fix its point system. Then I saw some were Jeff Gordon would have one it last year.

That won't happen with calls like opting for two tires on the last pit stop at Vegas.  That was just plain dumb.

I do not think Jimmie will make it five in a row.

I expect him to make the Chase but I think another driver will win the championship.

My two favorite drivers are Carl Edwards and Jimmie Johnson but I like them all, even Kyle Bush.

If Kyle was an Earnhart he would be the most popular driver on the circuit.  :)

IMHO, what's giving JJ his winning edge is the communication between he and Mr. Knaus and a great pit crew.  They probly have some very subtle setup techniques that are working well that even their other Hendrick teams can't pick up on.  They usually have enough adjustment in the car to tweek whatever's needed to get to the front.  Plus, JJ is just a good driver.

At a track like Vegas, your a sitting duck as the leader.    If Gordon/Letart take 4 those behind him take 2.  If JJ holds him off with 2 tires, Gordon's crew looks like they made a bad call.

I'm not saying 2 was better or 4 was better, but they had to make a choice and fully expect those behind them to do the direct opposite.  I"m no Gordon fan either..

While Gordon was the leader, Johnson was in his pit box first.  They made the decision to change four before they knew what Letarte was going to do.

Gordon ended up third.  With the leaders starting double file, Gordon would have had no trouble finishing in at least third.  Johnson was the only one who could stay with Jeff throughout a run.  And, who knows if Jimmy was showing his hand, or had something left in reserve?

He seemed to be able to run Jeff down, then settled back, leaving a half second gap, lap after lap.

My thought is that Jimmy had an ace in the hole.  Even if he could have taken the lead earlier, why show it?

That would have caused the 24 team to make some incremental adjustments.

If it had been five or ten laps to go, I'd agree with the two tire stop.  But it was twenty something.  Not a call I would have made.

I told my wife at the time that move would cost Jeff the race.  She liked that 'cause she's a Johnson fan.

Nascar doesn't provide anything on the cars except a carb/restrictor plate at Daytona and Talladega and shocks at other tracks. The cars are all either built in house or the chasis and bodies are bought from other teams. All engines/components are either built in house or bought from teams that manufacture every part of the engine except for the block which has to be a stock Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Toyota. once a team buys or builds a chasis and body they take it in the shop and tweak it to what they want and think works best. As I stated in the other thread having worked with the MM team they got a car in there a few years ago before the body change from another team that Eric was going to be driving for to put the powertrain in. This car was bought from DEI and was a superspeedway car and they got to looking at it and the car they were building in house for superspeedways wasn't even close to the car that DEI was building.

As far as the cheating goes I wouldn't really classify it as cheating. They work in the "gray" area of the rules where there really isn't a rule. Knaus is the best at reading the rule book and working around what it says and still not be actually breaking any rules. And Jimmy Johnson is a pure race driver, I have never been a big fan of him but I know pure driving ability and talent when I see it.

I need to correct myself from the Danica thread here since I can't do it there, it wasn't Jimmy Johnson Jr. it was Jimmy Spencer Jr's. crew in the Hooters series.
