Best way to ship a rod?

Featured Replies

Just did a swap with someone on the resource here and i have to ship a 6'6" combo...i dont have any boxes here that would fit well.  Any recommendation for the best enclosure to ship this thing in?  I just want it to get there safely (and not cost me an arm and a leg, which i think is going to happen!)

Ship them separately.  A tube inside a cardboard box works well for rods.  Any questions, just go to the PO and ask them.

Wrap the rod in bubble wrap and put it in PVC pipe. It should be easy to find a box to ship the reel in.

Also, stuff some newspaper into the end of the tube so the rod can't slide back and forth.

Lowes sells sched. 40 2" well casing pvc pipe for around $4 for a 10ft section. Wrap the entire rod in thin foam, plastic grocery bags or very thin bubble wrap. I always cut the tube around 1" longer than the rod length. I use the mylar type packing tape to securely seal one end of the pipe first, Slide the butt end in first. Make sure there's enough packing around the rod in at least a couple spots on the blank that it's securely supported mid-rod. Make sure the tip is well wrapped. Seal the tip end of the pipe. Mark on the tube with magic marker TIP END/BUTT END so the person on the other end knows which end is which. Good luck. I've never had a problem with that well casing pipe.
