Chilton repair manuals

Used a few Haynes manuals in the past, they weren't bad.  Fuel pump (I hope) went out in my Blazer this week, so I figured I'd try the online Chilton manual.  Paid $20 for a year's access.

Regretted the purchase in less than five minutes.  Illustrations are horrible and generic.

Wish I had both GM factory service manuals.

Does your Blazer have fuel injection ? If so, a fuel pressure reading taken at the shraeder valve (if GM uses one) located on the fuel rail will confirm if the punp is bad. Is the pump located in the tank ?

Yes, unfortunately.  Pulled the tank & pump yesterday.

Checked the pump relay before pulling the tank, it was good.  Pump wasn't energizing (supposed to hum for 2 seconds when you turn the key).  It had been making noises for at least two years.

Just a nice Core 50 down the drain... :'(

Chucks!Have used Chiltons' in the past,at best they would give you a rough idea and thats with included photos.Service manuals can sometimes be a crap shoot as well;needed to replace a reverse sending switch and the manual stated it was mounted on left side, when you crawled under there it was mounted on right.Went to refill clutch fluid and a wiring harness encased in plastic, mounted to firewall, prevented you from unscrewing cap to reservoir.Manual says to check fluid level in reservoir.LOL,g/l

I have the haynes for my car, you still kinda have to know what you're doing, because like you said it's still tough for someone that is a beginner to do much.  What kind of car do you have?

Why worry with Manuals, that's what you have friends for.

Yep, and as we were lowering the tank of course there's almost no slack in the lines and broke all three plastic fittings that connect the fuel lines to the pump.  No big deal on this one since they are part of the pump and would be replace anyway.

$20 for a year? I can go to O'reilly get the paperback copy for that and use it when ever I need to.

I've used nothing but Hayne's for all my cars, trucks, and motorcycles for the last 30 years. Some minor mistakes in them, but overall they're quite accurate.

I have a genuine Evinrude shop manual for my outboard.
