Standardizing Fish Hooks

Featured Replies

You know what we need?

A standardization among hook manufacturers regarding the size of our hooks.

So when we buy a 2/0 it is the same size no matter the manufacturer.  All we have to consider is the type, weight and color.

Just a thought.

What do you think?

I agree 100%.

I think it would be great. I tend to stick with Mustad, but when I do buy others there is a difference among most.

Will never happen, but would be very cool. While we're at it, how about making line manufacturers state their actual breaking strength on the package? Don't claim to have the strongest mono on the planet when all you're doing is sticking 17# line in a 10# box  ;D

I could not agree more. I recently bought a pack of 4/0 BPS worm hooks and they look like 2/0 or 3/0 of other brands.

I just stick with gammys and a few owners. It would be nice though. Having shoe sizes that way would be cool too.

BPS XPS hooks are the worst.  I bought several packages of their 3/0 EWG hooks last year sight unseen (had someone pick them up for me).

What I got was a 1/0 hook labeled as a 3/0 hook.   :-/
