Alright, I posted a month or so ago about building a room and needed help on a ceiling fan and switch.

I finished the room and now want to move an existing ceiling fan in another room. This fan has been an eye sore since I moved in. I want to be able to center it in the room, so my question is:

Can I remove the ceiling fan, run a new feed to the new location and use the existing work box as a J-box (junction box), or do I need to pull the existing circuit wire out and run a new feed?

I would just jbox it. It of course has to have a cover, and you have to be able to access it ( through the crawl space, or a blank cover in the room).

I agree, all you need to do to comply with electrical code is to use your existing Junction box to tie on a length of wire, stretch it to your new location, make sure you have a work box probably metal to hold your fan. Tie your wires black to black, white to white and copper to copper. Twist your wires tightly and cap black and white wires with a yellow or red wire nut. After you do this you need to install a cover over your old box and yes it has to be accessible. The only question remaining is what gauge of wire do you use. To do this you will need to go to your circuit breaker panel, locate that particular breaker (hopefully you did this before starting) if it is a 20 amp breaker use 12-2 gauge romax wire with ground, it is a 15 amp breaker use 14-2 gauge romax wire with ground. They both will have a black wire, a white wire, and a bare copper wire.
