Core I series processors...

Are they really good?

I think I may be getting a laptop for Christmas judging by the hints my dad gave me (see christmas traditions thread). I think its and inspiron 15 ince laptop, and I believe they come with i3 or i5 processors.

My question is are these processors as good as the hype?

And I was wondering if they could play racing games consistently at ~30 FPS.

The computer Im on now has an intel Pentium, so I'm guessing the upgrade would be noticeable.

What are you'r guys thoughts on the i3 and i5 processors?

Also, im going to be doing lots of school work on them, so im thinking browsing the web will be faster? or not?

Thanks,

Collin

I'm no expert either, but the processor doesn't exactly has to do with speed of web surfing. That also depends on speed of internet itself...My laptop is fast as hell at my parents' but at school it is extremely slow browsing the internet. The apartment I lived in has crappy bandwidth and too many people logging on...

I'm pretty sure the new Inspirons come with a decent 1GB ATI Radeon graphics processor (probably depending on what model).

It's not going to be a gaming powerhouse, but you'll probably be able to run your games smoothly with some decent graphics settings.

It's going to be a lot faster than your old Pentium machine for sure.

Those are great processors. Im an AMD man myself, but Intel has really been making some innovative stuff.

Should be a good processor for games, but the graphics card (or onboard graphics, depending on the laptop) is going to be your main concern for games.
