I am very accustomed to bass fishing and know what to use and when to use it for smallies at my pond and cor calico's (even though they strike, for me, pretty randomly).  I live near a pond called Bull Pond, so I can only assume that it's got Bullheads.

I really want to know the technique, time of day, bait, scent of bait, display of bait, area casted in (weeds, etc), waiting time (even though I am patient, I want to make sure something stole my bait and I'm sitting there looking stupid), and sun position.

I found that they come out at night and like chicken livers, but that's it.  I'm not really familiar with fishing lingo because I only just started to take fishing a little seriously.

Any help would be appreciated!

    The best time to catch horned pout (bullhead) is at night time. I've never tasted one but I've heard they are great. My fishing buddy uses a burlap bag with a rock in the bottom of it. He fills the rest of the bag up with dry dog food and then ties a rope to it and tosses it out into the water. He'll then wait 2-3 hours then pull it in. What that does is spreads the scent of the dog food which in return attracts the horned pout. He'll then cast his line in and set it. He usually uses just a weight, hook, and worm or sometimes bacon or another pork product. Tip: you'll barely notice the bite and the fish won't put up much of a fight when reeled in. So patience is key. Let your line sit and when you do reel it in, don't stop just because there's no fight. But you should feel the weight difference. As far as filleting and cooking you're on your own. Goodluck and let me know how you do.

Sounds like a good idea.  I've been too lazy to dig up worms and have been trying chicken livers and have only been catching snapping turtles  :-? .  Might as well try it tonight.  Thanks

Nope, it started to rain yesterday so I couldn't go.  I might try today but the latest I can stay until is 7:00.

The best times are between midnight and 4:00am.

I caught this 4lbder on koolaid dipped nightcrawlers at 5:00 pm you dip them in dry red koolaid powder use a medium sized sinker and a size /01 hook and walla

And how did you fish it? Like your name says, slowretrieve? Or carolina rig it and let it sit? Very interested to know. I might combine your trick with mine at around midnight and see what I come up with.
