is an ultra light or a light rogd beter for trout....also what size line sgould i use for trout

I use a 5'6 Micro Light Bass Pro Shops rod with 6 lb Pline and Abu Garcia Cardinal Smallest reel. Amazing setup!

Depends on what size trout you plan on catching. A medium rod (1/8 to 1/2 oz lure rating) with a medium-small reel (shimano sahara 1500 or 2500 size) would be good for trout. As for line, 6, 8, or 10 # line should be good.

Lures-try some in-line spinners or rapala countdowns or originals.

I use a medium light St Croix Avid with the smallest Pflueger President and 4 lb test line.

Quick story- First day of trout 2007 season. My cousin very very good trout fisherman. He used a rod it started as a 5'6 then he broke off the first 2 top eyes. First day of trout he is using is midget rod estimated 5' at most.. he catches two lunkers both over 8 pounds and another over 6.

I prefer an ultra light setup for stockers that generally don't get over 20 inches.  I usually spool on 2lb or 4lb with a lighter leader of at least my rod length (5').  Depending on the size of the stream I will sometimes use a 6'6" rod to get a little further reach and better presentation when fishing natural baits or float-n-fly.  If you really want a challenge go into the sewing kit and pull out some clear thread and tie that on.  I have measured some brands to break at 1-1.5lb.  Get a 15-inch rainbow on and land it.  Talk about learning to play a fish ;D.

they stock rainbow trout by the marinas every week now.

do u guys have any tips on where the trout would be.

their activity rate, depth,and what structure to look for...and whaterver else u want to throw in would be great too. ;D ;D ;D

First off, I'd recommend a 7' UL rod for stocked trout. They tend to cruise the drop offs or shorelines a lot, so finding "structure" is not all that important for stockies. Use 4# mono on a small, quality (best you can afford) spinning reel and you're good to go. I'd recommend a 1/16 - 1/8 oz. jig head and a bunch of different colored curly tails. Cast out....let it hit bottom....and slow reel it back in. Sort of like cold weather panfishing. You'll catch your share!  

if u really want to have some fun, and want to try something new, get yourself a nice 9' 5wt fly rod. There a blast to catch rainbows on.

Nothing like a beautiful rainbow slurping up a dry fly from the surface.
