Bowfishing

Featured Replies

are ther any bow fishing regulations that ar needed or do u just need a fishing lisence.

also if u know of a websight that ytaks about the regulations of bow fishing that would be great also

thanks for all the help

idk but those bowfish are pretty weird. I caught my first 2 today. It was fun since it was on my ultra light crappie rod with 4 pound line. Both times it broke my line but it was already on shore when it broke the first one. I would also like to have some info on these fish since i caught a pretty good number of them.

Are you talking about catching "bowfish" or bow fishing (like with a compound bow)?

i think you just need a normal fishing license...your not allowed to shoot any game fish- bass, crappie, bluegill ect.  i go all the time with a gig and a bow and always slay a ton of mudfish

I've never heard of having to have a special permit or anything.I do however know that there are certain species that they do not want you too shoot.IE: a bedding female largemouth.

Best thing to do would be to read the hand book that comes with your fishing license. It will usually list the specific numbers of species that can be "harvested" and also the methods of which they can be taken. If not then check with your state wildlife commission.Numbers and harvesting methods can vary from state to state. I dont think anyone could post an exact website, unless they live in the same state as you.You may want to try your states website.Just google it.Worst case you may find a phone number to call and ask for the info you need on bowfishing regulations.

I'll never forget the first time I saw someone bowfishing. When I first got to college, I went to scope out the strip pits. I walked down to the edge and kind of investigated the situation, saw what I wanted to see and started to walk back up to my car when this ol boy pulled up in his pickup and got out with his bow and goes "YOU SEE ANY CARP DOWN THURR?" "uhhh, no, sure didn't", when all of the sudden he shouts "THURS ONE!!!" and runs down to the bank and fires a shot into the water.

Ever since then I've wanted to buy a bow and try it. That just looks fun as heck.  8-)

Don't know about other states, but KS regulates you can only shoot non-sportfish (carp, drum, gar, etc.) and I think there's some waters they post you can't do it in.
