How the heck do I use this bobber?

Featured Replies

So I'm trying get get my gf's little cousin's into fishing and I feel like bluegill fishing would be the perfect gateway fish.

So I set out to the local walmart and buy some bobbers, small pre-snelled hooks, and some bait.

These bobbers I bought are long and the float is in the middle with a pointy section at the bottom.

Near the top there's a section that sticks out with a spring on it, under the spring is a notch...

So how do I use this thing?

Pull the spring towards the widest part of the bobber with your thumb and forefinger.  This should reveal a small opening in the plastic.  Thread the line into this crevice, and I usually wrap the line around one full time before letting the spring go.

Cast away.

Best,

Paul

So the bobber is kinda in the middle of the line and the hook is tied to the end?   Like you're drop shotting the bobber almost?

Haha, this is great. I will admit I never knew how to use one either. I don't think there is a wrong way though. I have looped around the top and the bottom.

Yeah, like you're dropshotting the bobber.  Suspend your bait at fish level and drink beer!

^_^

Best,

Paul

I prefer using those bobbers because that is the kind of bobber I started out fishing with. If found those bobbers to work best then the round bobber.

Those are stick bobbers you are reffering to , i think. They offer less resistance then the round bobbers and are a good choice to catch panfish with. If you are taking a young one one out try putting 1/16 jigs with a night crawler tipped on it .  good luck
