catfish slip bobber rig help!!!!

I usually fish for them with a slip float, how ever i have some questions regarding the straw floats used for live bait fishing, i use an 8in weighted big daddy float with usually 1/2 ounce egg sinker, i still cant get the straw to stand up >:(, any advice is appreciated.
