Weighted, Wacky Worm

Featured Replies

I was watching some fishing show last weekend and one guy was using a technique i hadnt heard of.  He was fishing a finess worm wacky style.  All good so far.  Then he inserted a nail into one end of the worm.  I guess it changes the action of the fall.  Has anyone used this technique?  When would you go to this instead of without the nail? Maybe wind conditions influence your decision..

I have heard of people doing that to change the fall of the bait, but I dont do it. I always wacky rig weightless......If it's too windy, I use something else..........Just my opinion.........

I'll either use nails, or, if I'm in a pinch, use cut sections of a wire coathanger to get different actions and falls.  I also like to put it in the tail because it causes the bait to head in at an angle.  This way I can get worms, centipedes, or whatever right where I want, especially underneath lilypads and other vegetation that prevents a straight drop from getting by the stalk.

One deadly technique used on Toledo Bend is to attach a split shot about 12 above the hook; this allows the worm to fall in the typical wacky technique but with added weight.
