Does anyone on here ever do any fishing for trout? I enjoy going after brookies and browns up near skyline drive. Also fish some native streams in WV.

Mmm,  been a long time for me fishing for trout.  I use to all the time.  Look up Mossy Creek, that is by land owners permission there.  Maybe try the Tye river, South river (in Waynesboro),

If you are going in the WV direction, try the Jackson River above Covington, but below Gathright Dam.  That is a great place to fish, well use to be, there is a King's Land grant issue going on there now. 

Also, from the Shendoah area west to WV look for access to the Bull and Cowpasture rivers.  They are suppose to be good, but I have not fished them.

I am from the Blacksburg area.  They have stocking programs for many of the streams in the Jefferson National Forest and a few other streams in the area.  The best place around here to go though is Little Stoney Creek/ Stoney Creek.  They stock rainbows four times a year in the lower portions at you get near the new river and up.  It the upper portion of the stream there are populations of native brook trout in the two upper branches.

From what I know AP hill does trout stocking. If have the trout permit it's $5 a day. I think 3 is the limit though.

What about the pond by Kenmore park? I know it was a trout pond at one time.

Don't they also stock lake Orange? At least that's what I heard last.

Yes! I love catching wild brookies in Shenandoah! There are so many fantastic small streams out there. The fish aren't big, but the scenery is amazing, and the pressure on them is very light if you're willing to hike uphill a couple of miles before you begin to fish. I just bought myself a 6ft 2wt combo specifically for Shenandoah, and hope to test it out within the next couple of weeks.

I like fishing for trout, but the closest place to fish for them is about 2.5 hrs. away, and full of stockies. But still fun!

Yep, flies for me. Everything else feels like cheating! The one in the pic was on a white streamer, IIRC. Trout in the little mountain streams are not usually picky about what they'll eat. The difficult part is sneaking up so they don't detect you.

Been wanting to get into fly fishing, but haven't had the opportunity to learn yet.  Interested in the idea and challenge of hiking to a fishing spot, though.

Absolutely. I find that fly fishing gives me more options because in many places, these streams are only a few feet wide and average maybe 10" deep. So the ability to have a relatively "light" bait work its way down between rocks can be an advantage for sure. But an U-L setup w/ very small lures would certainly work, and there are plenty of longer/deeper pools that would allow you that opportunity.
