As I found out this past Sunday on Smith Mtn,the fish are not doing much and they didnt do much today either. The BFL Regional tournament kicked off today and most of the field had a tough day.Of the 147 anglers in it,there were only 5 limits caught today with the biggest one weighing 14+.Leader has 3+ pounds on second place.

Here's a few more stats.

Anglers weighing in 4 fish = 8

Anglers weighing in 3 fish = 19

Anglers weighing in 2 fish = 35

Anglers weighing in 1 fish = 37

Anglers weighing in 0 fish = 43

The fall frenzy hasnt started yet but it should be happening anytime. The B.A.S.S. Northern Tour will be here next weekend,it could be tough for them too.

keep us posted on this i for one am interested in how they catch em at smith mountain.

what sort of pattern/baits are most of em getting caught on?

Well,I dont really know what happened yesterday because FLW Outdoors hasnt updated their site with Day 2 results YET. ::) I'm going to the final weigh-in today to see what happened. It was real windy and cold yesterday, the wind may have helped them down there,it usually helps me at Smith.

My guess is that the best baits are a crank and a jig......possibly a spinnerbait when the wind is blowing.

OMG! Did you say 14+? Thanks for the update. Can't wait for the details.

Craw,that was a 14+ limit,not a 14+ bass! LOL!

The final winning weight was 36-04 over 3 days.Same guy led wire to wire and won a Chevrolet truck and a Ranger Boat!Second place had just over 31 and 3rd place only had 23+ over the 3 days.During the 3 day tournament, only 7 total five bass limits were caught.

The fishing is definitely tough right now.I did see a bunch of the BASS Northern Tour guys out today pre-fishing.Their tournament is on Smith Mtn this coming weekend. Most were pitchin jigs to docks.David Dudley is the pre-tournament favorite.Come on down and we'll go to the weigh-ins.

I guess some of the othe bassrecource guys on here didn't fair to well either.  That sounded like a tough couple days there!  Always next year I guess. :'(
