Tournaments on TV???

Featured Replies

Hey guys.  I'm in Northern Virginia.  I work normal hours 8:30-5:00pm and I was wondering does anyone know when these tournaments are televised and if there would be any I might be able to catch with my work schedule?  I hear about them all the time but what like to watch some to see if I could pick up on some of the fishing lingo and maybe get some tips.  I don't have a boat yet but me and my dad are planning on buying a jon boat with a trolling motor in the next couple of months so I can start boat fishing more.  Right now I shore and bank fish mostly, sometimes from piers, but not alot around here in my area.  Anyway if anyone has any info in my area I'd be grateful if you'd share it (in regards to the tourneys).  Also what channels you can normally catch them on or if I may have to order a channel with my cable company.  And if so which one.  Thanks for any help.  Sorry if this is a totally newb question.

I've checked ESPN and ESPN2 regularly and haven't found much of anything.

You may want to check with your local cable provider to see if they have DVR services - I have mine set to record the first run of all of these since I am usually out fishing when they air, but I can watch them anytime I want to - the same with The Bass Pro's, Bill Dance, etc.  BTW, the Smith Mountain tournament is going to be on this Saturday at about 8:30 AM (CDT).

Thanks man, I was considering looking into one of those anyway, now I have a reason to give the wife lol.  I'm gonna be fishing Leesylvania in the morning by the bridge before the boat launching dock, doing some bank fishing for smallies, but I'll have my dad tivo it so I can watch it Saturday evening before I start drinking.  Thanks for the heads up man.  Who are the favorites for Smith Mountain?

There was a bass masters tournament on today.. *Remembers the resource guide where sunday morning fishing shows are mentioned..*

However my cable stinks so I wasn't able to watch it :(

Check espn.. :P

The ones I know that offer good fishing shows are:

Espn2.... Used to be pretty good but kind of going downhill. Check out the Saturday lineup.

Versus... Now this channel has really taken off. Plenty of fishing shows pretty much all week long.

OLN.... Have not watched this one in a year or so but but it was pretty decent when I did watch it.

The suggestion in an earlier post about a DVR is a pretty good one. I actually have DISH network and my reciever comes with a DVR service. The extra $6 per month charge is money well spent......

Comcast has DVR services available.  ESPN2's Saturday programming usually features The Bassmasters, The Bass Pros, BASS Insider, and A Day on the Lake.  "Versus" is the new name for OLN and has a lot of fishing shows.  Basic cable from the wall right to your TV won't cut it unfortunately as you'll need digital cable with a with the Converter/DVR.  The DVR is easy to program.
